This "personal reasons" thing is acceptable to the league office? These are professional athletes. I can see IQ being on sympathy strike with his ex-Knick buddy RJ over his lost brother. But how could Porter be out for personal reasons?
I mean, I'm glad for the tank. But a bit mystified.

Personal reasons for Porter = doing what you can to keep the management happy so you can sign a long-term deal.

IQ uncle passed away
I'd lean towards giving the benefit of the doubt at this point based on what has already happened with RJ and IQ.

I'm not sure, maybe they disclose the personal reasons to head office but not to the public for privacy reasons.

Assuming Raptors lose the final 10, need Portland to win 4 or 5 which is extremely unlikely.

I ... guess. So IQ's gonna miss 12 games of his young professional career, where he's learning a new position and role in the team, and trying to earn a big contract next summer, because his uncle died?
Of course, every family dynamic is different. I have/had 9 uncles across Canada. But I only flew out to one's funeral, because I was relatively close to those cousins. But I took work with me, and never stopped working. But perhaps this uncle effectively raised IQ as a father figure. In 2019, OG was given what seemed like months to work out his father's funeral arrangements in Nigeria.
My main concern is that I want Silver and/or the Lottery Gods to perceive this as an ethical tank.

On IQ’s IG, he posted a family pass, so it wasn’t for RJ

the blatant tanking at the end of the season is getting ridiculous.
The NBA is making their stars hobble around the court so they qualify for all-nba teams, but the bottom teams can dress gleague lineups for 1/4 season.

As you said, every family dynamic is different and the fall out or consequences of the death are something we also might not be aware of.
This could also be combined with an injury where he isn't 100%. I recall he took a bad charlie horse to the quad in his last game. I remember thinking when it happened I doubt he plays next game but this the personal reasons designation came on the injury report.

Agreed. I hope they up the lottery slots and flatten odds further.

At this point I'm completely fine with all our starters sitting for the rest of the year.
I do wish Carton was available as this is the perfect opportunity for him to show the team what he can do. Do we even know what his injury is?

No clue how it works but I'm guessing the team might need to report to the NBA as to the details of those personal reasons...
