Worst Case Scenario - no 1st round pick

Post#1 » by anotherhomer » Thu Apr 4, 2024 1:16 pm

Hear me out, but here's the worst case Scenario for Raptors:

Indiana Pacers gets bumped down to play-in, lose the play-in and end-up in lottery.
Because the lottery only determines who gets into the top 4, then the rest gets bumped down accordingly

say indiana pacers jump 10 spots into top 3, then Raps will automatically drop to 7

Since Indiana pick is top 3 protected, then raps have no 1st round picks to account for this crappy season

talk about really crappy

Yes that would be terrible.

But.. Raps pick gets bumped to #1. Indiana pick goes #4. We end up with two top 5 picks. WIN!

I can think of a number of worse things.

Drinking spoiled milk.
Getting hit by a truck.
Reading another thread like this.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I don't get this logic, it's like me planning to get into a car crash today and then get home and get hit by a bus on my evening jog. Stop the doom and gloom and just wait for the lottery. We could also win Pick #1 and hold the pacers pick.

Have you ever eaten spoiled cooked carrots? Worse than spoiled milk in my opinion.

After all the complaining all season, this result would be hilarious.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

The 3 blocks of time on this board would turn into the worst modding day in RealGM History:
1 - Pacers move up (OH NO, RAPS PROBABLY MOVE DOWN AND WE ALSO ONLY HAVE A 25% CHANCE OF KEEPING THE PACERS PICK)
2 - Raptors not called at 7th pick (HOLY **** WE HAVE A TOP 4 PICK BUT MAYBE ALSO LOSE THE PACERS PICK)
3 - Pacers called at 4 (HOLY CRAP THIS IS THE GREATEST DRAFT LUCK OF ALL TIME)

Basically, Andy's 500 yards of **** smelling foulness to get to freedom.

So with Memphis winning again yesterday, we will very likely finish 6th last.

Interestingly, Portland is not far ahead us...and maybe (unlikely) we can finish with the same record as them and they would have the tiebreaker beating us twice this year.

I have to imagine there is less then a 5% chance of the Pacers jumping from the end of the lottery into the top 3.

Look at Portland's schedule. The only real winnable game is against the Wizards.

Ya, more like 1%.

https://www.nba.com/news/nba-draft-lottery-explainer

So 0.5% for 14th worst and 1% for the 13th worst team. Oh wait that's for #1 only. I guess have to add probability of getting #2 and probability of getting #3. There is likely a matrix somewhere out there, but ya, total is less than 5%.

Yeah for sure, it's very unlikely but who knows, especially if a team like Boston starts resting players for the playoffs, Houston is out of the play-in picture or Sacramento has a meaningless game.

That would just be a coin flip. Regular season head to head record doesn't mean anything in the tank standings

Ah ya, Boston has a 7 game lead on the West top teams and 14 over any east team so they should start resting.

The only time I've ever seen a team get that kind of luck was the freaking Cavs in 2011 where the Clippers unprotected pick went from low-lottery to #1 and their own pick went to #4. They got Kyrie and Tristan.

Having no pick in this year, means we have all the picks for the next years. It is a win in my book, specially if this is really a crappy draft class as sold.
