Would You Trade Poeltl To The Spurs For Their #8 Pick Back?

Post#1 » by Tor_Raps » Wed Jun 5, 2024 6:28 pm

As per wiretap, the Spurs are looking to win now and would be open to trading their 1st Rounders. Let's say they'd like Poeltl back and were willing to trade our original #8 pick back to us to absorb Poeltl in their cap space. Would you do it?

Absolutely not. Maybe if we got our 2nd rounders back. Poeltl is worth more than just about anyone in this horrid draft - at this point. The only reason to do it would be to tank the year starting from the get go, but I don't think the team wants to do that.

Wemby is everything but you're probably right. There are benefits to having Poeltl play post defense and do all the dirty work in the paint to preserve Wemby'a body longterm. Poeltl would only play like 28 minutes a game, which leaves Wemby being able to play C the other 20 minutes at a minimum.

Could also make more sense to go after a floor stretching PF to allow Wemby to do whatever he wants in paint on both ends. Let's see what the Spirs decide.

spurs experimeted with wemby playing pf first half of season, he was great, but when he played C second half of season he became runner up to dpoy.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

This is the definition of no trade backs on the schoolyard playground.

If I were to trade him for picks, I would rather trade him for.multiple future picks or multiple mid to late firsts in this draft.

I don't even know, tbh. What has more trade value around the league? I'd wager that a ready-to-go C like Poeltl has more value in trade that benefits us, than #8 in this draft. BUT, if we were able to bundle #8 and our pick to get one of the top picks, maybe that would be more worth it? I dno.

Based on where the Raps are currently, you do it because the pick would be younger, cheaper and he'd come with more control, but I'm pretty sure we'd only get a player similar in impact to Poeltl at 8 in this draft -- basically a rotation or starting caliber player (if he doesn't bust). But I'm not a big fan of this draft inside the top 10, looks like a lot of rotational type guys with no clear cut gamechangers. I'm pretty sure we dodged a bullet by transferring the pick this year instead of 25 or 26. .

If we could get Zach Edey, then yes.
I think Edey is going to be a great pro.

There are a combo of good C's and SF prospects that should be available at 8/19. I'd be all over it.

Yes. Jak is not a bad player, he just doesn't fit the team, be it from a skill set or timeline stand point. Even without this draft being stellar, we still need talented players. We aren't likely to find that with the 19th and 31st pick.

I assume if you want this trade to happen you also want to tank next year? Raptors would never do this because they are not going to tank.
