Just thought it would be interesting to reflect that it’s now been 10 years since the 2014 draft.

Masai had relatively similar picks back then compared to this year being 20 and 37 and he selected Bruno Caboclo and DeAndre Daniels. I can’t think of another draft year where we had two picks as closely comparable to this year than 2014. It was a pretty big whiff for Masai in a fairly deep draft. I think the prevailing narrative was that Masai was trying to get his Giannis, but who knows what the truth is there.





Anyways, as much as I enjoyed Bruno, hopefully Masai doesn’t repeat those failures this year and we get a usable prospect or two.

Here’s hoping Masai doesn’t have another off year with similar picks this year. Jerami Grant at 37 would have been amazing that year.

Funny that the pick ended up really getting the 905 investment fast tracked.

I don't mind the big swing for the fences. But he was definitely way too clever. Could he not have got Bruno with the 37? I forget if some team said they were gonna grab him.

What a weird draft. That 2nd round has some oddly productive players.

I really liked Daniels.

That foot injury really derailed his career. Liked his potential as a 3+D wing.

Right the draft where they passed on Jokic twice. Obviously so did almost every other team including the Nuggets. Can’t help but wonder what if though.

Jokic was a stroke of luck for the Nuggets, not even they knew what they had at the time.

There was talk that Giannis could become something big at the draft but it was a big gamble, Jokic came out of nowhere really. (relative to any draft talk)

exactly. i have watched every draft since 1995. the Jokic pick will never be beat. an all-time great @ pick 41. insane. even better than drafting Ginobili @ 59.

Problem with coboclo when he came into the league he was a SF and wasn't ready, once he got a taste be bulked up and turned into a PF. Then he turned into a Center and that's where it ended.

Yeah. the prevailing narrative of the draft must have been trying to get his own Giannis when Giannis was drafted one year before, and nobody here knew what GA was, or would be.

It may not have been historic like some were initially predicting. But looking at the re-draft…I have zero issue with saying it was fairly deep. Strange.

Lol. The comparison in that is about drafting a raw athlete. Maybe it’s was his 6.8 Ppg in year one that made everyone want to chase getting their “own Giannis”.

Nah, I’ll just choose history. I would have said the obvious prevailing narrative was he was that he was two years away from being two years away.

After Bruno we saw Mitch McGary, Jordan Adams, Rodney Hood, Shabazz Napier, Clint Capela, PJ Hairston, Bogdan, CJ Wilcox, Josh Huestis, and Kyle Anderson fill out the rest of the first round. IDK if I look at that and say "pretty big whiff".

Jokic in the 2nd round is an obvious "what could have been" but I have a tough time calling a draft deep and calling somethign a whiff based on the 41st pick.
