A consultant for the team just told me that there were internal discussions and an attempt made to trade for Donovan Clingan at #6 overall. Didn't happen due to the negotiations falling through but there was a desire and intent to get Clingan.

Interesting but also without knowing the cost they were willing to give up, quite incomplete information if accurate.

Not sure what any package was centered around or if he was allowed to know that information. Many teams apparently wanted Clingan but Charlotte held firm to select Salaun at #6.

I don't think Clingan has played over 26minutes in a game in his life. He would be best suited to learn behind Jakob for a while

Great... So now when/if Clingan becomes the clear cut best player in the draft, and a perennial allstar + DPOY candidate, Masai's team is going to say he tried to frantically trade up to select him, but trade talks fell apart

Who is this “Dean” you mentioned in the other thread? What else did they say, why should we believe them, and why are they leaking this to you? The Raptors are normally tight-lipped.

Nobody threw anyone under the bus, he and a member of the analytics department both advocated for Podziemski. I was told it's not easy to convince those who are ultimately responsible for making the pick to buy into a less conventional selection like Podziemski was. The higher ups are usually more receptive to that only outside of the lottery as they are more willing to take perceived risks later on. Key word is perceived.

The optimistic outcome for Clingan is apparently Rudy Gobert with better offense.

I was told that every single UConn player aced their interview because of the incredibly complex schemes that were run by Dan Hurley and the standard of excellence he holds his players to.

I've never created a thread before making unfounded claims so if this is the first time it probably means I'm not trying to spread false information for the sake of it and actually have a reputable source sharing a ton of information with me on the Raptors' draft process. He wasn't sitting at the table next to Masai but was kept up to date by the individual he works for in the analytics department. The chance of this being a "broken telephone" situation is next to none as the info came from a member of the analytics team to him to me directly and nobody is trying to spread BS.
