When do you predict we become contenders again?
Scottie/RJ/IQ/Gradey core is locked in for 3-6 years.
Good picks this year.
Jakob Poeltl likely only veteran to remain.
We project to be a borderline play-in team next year.
What's the contention timeline?

Until we get another player near the calibre of Scottie there is no clear timeline to be an actual contender but we should be a competitive Playoff team within 3 years.

"Competitive" as in 2nd/3rd round teams like we had during Lowry/Derozan era?
If Scottie projects to be a superstar, then really all you need is a star next to him. And we potentially have that with RJ/IQ.

Hopeful part says about 3 years before they are back in the playoffs picture in a competitive way, and 4-5 years before they are a real player in the east.
This franchise has only been contenders for one year, maybe 2, in its whole existence, so I don't project contending status based on the current lineup.

Well, we're paying IQ to be the Robin to Barnes' Batman so we hope to be good next year. I still see this team being a bottom 10 team in the nba but the offseason is just starting so let's see.

Yes like DeRozan/Lowry teams….they also played in a very weak East minus LeBron. Not that the East is great but BOS & NYK are gonna be very tough for the next several plus years and even ORL is on the come up plus we’ll see how CLE tweaks their roster around Mitchell moving forward. Not to mention however PHI is able to hold Embiid together with glue. It’s a MUCH tougher road for us now than it was then.
Not to mention we’re only hoping Scottie will be a superstar, neither have IQ or RJ shown they’re good enough to be at the level of the 2nd best players on recent championship squads. So there’s still a lot of ground to cover.

With this core? We likely don't. Playoff team for sure, but a contender? Without another major high talent player joining us, we won't, it's just how the NBA is, you aren't going anywhere without 2 bona fide stars, we barely have 1 right now.

Props TZ!

One could argue RJ/IQ/Scottie are all stars in the making, with Scottie being a potential superstar.

This core has 2-3 year window at best. I'm not super optimistic because FO burned at least a couple of years in futile attempt to compete.

I think ideally, you want to collect more assets and use some of them including core players to upgrade. So it depends on ability to collect and the opportunities that may open up down the line. Not impossible but yeah, not highly likely. Should've been where we are now a couple of years earlier and should've been in Wemby sweepstakes.

Not with this core, unless Quickley blows up. Will have to trade or draft another star.

Probably never unless we acquire another Scottie-tier prospect in the next couple years.

Are Brown and Tatum both Scottie-tier to you?
Because I think Scottie can be better than both of them.

RJ/IQ are most likely to cap out at 1-2 AS appearances at best, I don't think all stars in the making is a fair classification. And Scottie being a superstar, I guess that depends on your definition of the term. To me a superstar is like a top 5-8 player in the NBA, while Scottie definitely has the potential, the chances are pretty low.

Yeah this is how I feel, we'd have to manage some FVV/Siakam level magic again to get back to contention without a high draft pick. This core + a solid bench is not good enough to be a contender, typically you need like 2 top 15 players to be considered a true contender.
Neither IQ or RJ will ever be considered a top 15 player.

Props TZ!

Barnes may become Siakam level player, but I don't see him being Brown / Tatum level. Barnes lacks quickness.

Scottie will be better than Tatum/Brown (who won a chip and are considered top-15).
RJ/IQ can be traded for a top-15 piece.
