Why The Raptors Should Explore Trading Jakob Poeltl To The Knicks

Post#1 » by AceKobe » Wed Jul 10, 2024 6:55 pm

Trading Jakob Poeltl to the New York Knicks could be a strategic move for the Toronto Raptors. With Isaiah Hartenstein gone and Mitchell Robinson frequently injured, the Knicks' desperation for a center is evident, having offered Utah two first-round picks for Walker Kessler. This gives the Raptors a chance to leverage the situation, acquiring valuable assets for their rebuild, freeing up cap space, and allowing for proper tanking without a significant center.

For the Knicks, Poeltl would strengthen their interior defense and rebounding, crucial for their playoff ambitions. His long, reasonable contract provides stability and reliability at the center position, fitting well with their roster. The Raptors could secure a favorable deal given the Knicks' willingness to part with significant assets.

Who the **** is PORTEL?

Knicks don't have any good picks to trade. Brooklyn owns those. They only have protected picks that may never even convey as first round picks.

Knicks aren’t a good trade partner.

Their draft assets are glorified second round picks.
They don’t have $12m in salary to send out for Poeltl.
They are just under luxury tax.

Raps will need to hope a few centers sustain season ending injuries because looking at the NBA landscape there aren't many teams to tango with. The market for traditional centers fluctuates greatly and rapidly, if you don't strike while the iron is hot you could be forced to hold out while asset value deteriorates.

Poeltl to the knicks would made only sense, if they trade randle and/or robinson away to make room.

I believe that if there is a Poeltl trade happening, it will happen after Lauri Markannan and Ingram Situations are resolved. (or he might be even part of it)

Just cant see us going back to having no C on the roster and forcing a guy like Scottie to play small ball C all year.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

I feel like trading Poeltl will cause Scottie to play out of position more often which is not ideal.

Why the Raptors dealt away an FRP to go on a faux play in run?

Personally I want Jakob around for helping the guys develop

Elite finisher for Scottie on the roll
Sets great off ball screens for Dick and Walter
PNR with Quickley.

He'll help these guys shine

Having a big that could space the floor would be even more beneficial for our young guys and their development.

ya i think its time to think to not trade our most stable factor in the middle when all these years we've been complaining about getting a legit center since Gasol/Ibaka.

ya he doesn't shoot 3s but now you've got to make sure the rest of the team and the bench can, which was also a problem the last few years.
raf1995 wrote:I just don’t think he has that kind of potential. I think we will regret not trading him for a haul in a few years when he’s a mid-tier starter with nice playmaking and defense and a shaky jumper.

ya, but at the end of day, this team is currently developing talent and we aren't ready to ship our best defensive back-line guy for the trade off of defense for offense, just yet

I could see us finishing 9th/10th with healthy Yak and the Bulls/Nets/Hawks all stepping back. And of course the dregs of the East did absolutely nothing so far and are tanking again. Which leaves the Raptors primed to move up, unless we do a Poeltl trade which is unlikely to me.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

trading poetl makes no sense. the team loses badly without a center and his contract is reasonable.
