Daaamn. Hopefully they don’t lose the gold from the previous Olympics.

Given the harsh penalty to the soccer team, hopefully Canadians remember this moment in the future when the tables are turned.

outside of basketball, looking forward to track, hoping to see De Grasse medal in his third Olympic games, he already has six medals but hoping to see him on the podium especially in the 200m

Think it will be tough for him to medal in either 100 or 200m. He hasn't been near the fastest times that are needed to medal in those two events.
He does seem to pull out his better performances in big events though so let's see.

6 Point Deduction

Chances are very slim that the soccer team can make it into the next round after being deducted 6 points, even if they manage to win all their games. Might as well go home and then go slap all the coaches.

Isn't drone usage very common in soccer? This is over the top imo. I think punishment would have been different if it were another team. Canada would have made it out of this group easily and now chances are very slim.

Doubt it's common to use drones to spy on other teams.

Uhm no, not really common in Football. The punishment would been the same for every other team, because the punishment is strictly regulated by the IOC.

yes will be tough but never count De Grasse out especially in these big events, he pulled off a 19.75 to end last season and ran a 19.98 a few weeks ago

I mean we just had a soccer player come out and say it happens and there really are no advantages here. They could have easily caught others doing this in the past. They're essentially kicking Canada out of the Olympics for something one or two individuals did. They deserved punishment but deducting 6 points is way over the top.
What was the most they would have gained? You have videos of everything teams run. By the first play of the game or set piece, you would already know what the other team is doing. The punishment doesn't fit the crime here. I find the punishment shady.

19.75 is a solid time but 19.98 is nowhere close to good enough.
I'm pulling for him though.

If there were no real advantages, then they wouldn't take the risk and do it in the first place.

Well we had soccer people come out and say it was stupid to do it.

No disagreement there from me. It was a stupid risk with likely little reward.

Our first medal of Paris 2024. 17 year-old Summer McIntosh grabs Silver in Women's 400m Freestyle.

Wasn't the 6 point deduction handed down by FIFA, not the IOC?
