I was going to say, is Spain before or after all this? It's going to be a whirlwind, maybe they'll be exhausted to start the season.

I'd love to see Montreal get an NBA team.
They're one of the biggest North American markets without a team.

The previous translated article said they were going to Spain for some training camp in August. My guess the August thing is something informal. We see that Quickley is already in those facilities this week in Spain from his IG.

Dont think the have the same type of money as Toronto especially earning local revenue in CAD instead of USD.

I hear ya. It'll likely never happen.
But surely Montreal is a "wealthier" city than: New Orleans, Memphis, Utah, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Charlotte...just to name a few.

Of course we play Boston twice

Seriously though, Montreal is an awesome city and one day they really should have an NBA franchise (and it's practically an anglophone city, you can get by very easily without being able to speak any Francais whatsoever).

I think Spain is/was an exhibition game wasn't it?

At least we got the Olympics this year. Maybe catch some CEBL playoffs too. It’s better than most years.

Slightly different but it surprised me to look at a list of top 100 US cities by population. Some cities that are in the top 20 have no major sports teams while some that have 3 or 4 of the 4 major sports teams are not that big - Atlanta, Detroit, Pittsburgh , Milwaukee, KC, St Louis all well outside the top 20.

I agree with your point, but I do want to say that Atlanta is one of the fastest growing cities in the US and is the de facto centre of a large southern region. The metro Atlanta area is ~6 million, albeit pretty spread out.
Anyway, Montréal is awesome, has a lot of people and a lot of old money, I’m sure it could support a team easily if the right owners came along.

I am unsure population is the reason. I believe corporate and business buy tickets and basically they can claim for expense.

Montreal is a terrible city for a NBA team. Don’t see it happening any time soon.

Any reasons why you say that? Montréal loves sports and likely has enough corporate dollars to support a team (there are a lot of Canadian companies based in MTL - not as many as there used to be, but still a lot of big ones). I could see the language issues being brought up, but MLS and the NHL both do fine there, and with the growing prominence of French-speaking countries on the basketball world stage, it might be an attractive destination for players moving forward.

There’s places in Montreal where they’re outright have disdain for people who speak only English.
If they think Toronto feels like another country despite being almost identical to a traditional American major city, they’re going to feel like they’re in Europe in Montreal lol.
MLS and NHL aren’t an apt comparison because the majority of the players in those leagues aren’t even American. That’s not the case with the NBA. It’s predominantly Americans and they don’t need to leave their home country to join the best league in Basketball. They’re much more less inclined to move countries to play basketball compared to NHL players who have to move countries.
MLS has historically struggled to get players from overseas, they have to overpay and when they do, it’s usually star players entering the end of the careers looking for a big pay day.

Kind of wish we'd just have training camp in our own neighborhood for once, let the new players really get used to in here, but I guess they have all year for that
