Did anyone play it yet? What are your thoughts?

Last 2K i tried was NBA 2K20 and this was during the pandy. Life got busy afterwards. Thinking about buying it for the PS4.

Having played 2k since like 2k12.

Nor have I owned a console in ages.

But thinking about getting the PS5 Pro when it comes out in the winter and buying 2k25 along with it.

There's a thread on the general board about this. I'm also considering whether to buy it or not. Haven't bought a 2K basketball game since 2k19 and what a year that was lol.

Aren't they all just pretty much the same since forever? Kinda like COD, just upgraded graphics and stats/weapons every year or two with a new gimmick mod here and there.

Is the Raps 2019 squad available to use in 2k25?

2k21 was my last 2k, last time I seriously enjoyed 2k maybe 2k12 or 13.

It used to be basically all I played, but I barely touch it anymore.

These days I wait until the previous year's version is free on one of the subscription services (happens faster than you think) or on sale for like 10 bucks. I do a franchise fantasy draft, play like 1 quarter, and turn it off. Might do that a few times, or play a few games with old teams.

Couldn't care less about My2K and VC and all that ****.

Have had the game for a few days now on XSX and it's pretty good. I think the gameplay is a step above what it has been for a few years and I think it's a fine year to jump back in if you're gone without. The fluidity of animations, general flow/pace of play and feel of actually playing the game is as good as its ever been. They got the balance of things right. Some bugs they gotta patch out in terms of busted substitutions and other small things here or there, but that's normal with most any big release these days.

I think if you got the machine for it, PC is probably the way to go, especially since it's the current-gen engine now and it'll have mod support and all that.

Caveat that I never touch the multiplayer stuff, so ymmv on whether any of that is any good this year, but if you're primarily a franchise/myleague player, I think you'll be eating good. The cpu on allstar/superstar/hof will give you a bucket without it feeling too cheap or anything.

Yes, but no Serge on the default roster from what I saw, which was kinda weird. But there's good user-made rosters that re-add all the missing players. And the 2016 team, with Lowry/DeMar/Ross/2Pat/JV is there too in the new Curry era in MyLeague/GM mode.

The default rosters tend to underrate the hell out of the Raps roster, but it's not a big issue just changing that up yourself.

I dunno about 2k25 (I played 24 or 23 - can't remember) but I find 2k to be one the worst sports games around.

I'm not a fan of soccer at all but FIFA is 100x better. Madden is more fun too.

2k animations are still so clunky. Gameplay isn't much better. I'm also not into all VC and all that junk. Glad I started gaming in the 90s before all of this spending extra cash in games became a thing.

I'll only get 2k when it's absolutely dirt cheap on sale or free with PS Plus. I also prefer playing with the Raps teams but they haven't been good in years.

It's really too bad. I remember all the way back around 2k7, when nba 2k started to surpass NBA Live... they had less marketing and exposure, but they succeeded because the gameplay was pushing the boundaries and making huge jumps every year. Ever since they stopped making NBA live, it seems like 2k ignored the gameplay and are now the ones only focusing on marketing and non-gameplay features. Just watched a video of 2k25, the game looks clunky as ever.

Well dang, NBA 2K8 was my first ever 2K series purchase. Staring at the cover and reading the back the entire bus ride. Ran back home and played the game all night. After 2k14 I think it got less interesting. Even after the hardware upgrade with the PS4 I was pretty disappointed.

Live made a good attempt in 2019 but never came back after that.

I did need a break from the 2k series, maybe this year I'm more into it if I secure a PC upgrade or PS5 Pro

Boycott 2K unless you have a serious case of Stockholm syndrome

Only thing I find myself caring about in these games the past few years is franchise modes and team building.

Any insight there would be much appreciated! (or other sports sim games; OOTP is the gold standard but its baseball)

Football Manager is the gold standard imo, but OOTP is def right up there too.

In terms of non text-sims, myleague/myera in 2K is about as good as it gets in terms of an overall sandbox plus roster-buiilding. You can start in the early 80s and progress right up to the current day and beyond, and you can get pretty deep with it, though of course it's not perfect/clear of potential bugs. The new dynasty mode in College Football 25 and Franchise mode in The Show being not far behind, though the latter has gotten a bit stale and def isn't a replacement for OOTP.

EA FC-FIFA/Madden/NHL are functional but not nearly as good as OOTP.

Ah yes, the yearly game where the publishers try to nickel and dime the customers.

Nice list, thank you!

The Epic game store actually had Football Manager 24 for free a couple of weeks ago and I remembered to log in to scoop it up. Looks like I'll be trying it out.

Won't touch 2K25 unless there's a free version out next year on PS Plus or Game Pass.

That's basically how I played 2K23 and I also got 2K24 but barely touched it because I didn't want to go through the grind again. It's basically same BS every year with updated roster and slightly new coat of painting if at all.

Only mode that interests me is single player career mode and it's been a grindy s#!t forever with uninteresting story. The moment they decided to put career mode and My Player into one is when things took a turn for the worse with endless microtransactions and even more grind because they put so many things behind a pay wall.

People have made a PC spreadsheet you can use to play a career mode in MyLeague (or MyGM or whatever) that is way better.
