Best Natural Position for SB4
Assuming you added him to a team of 5 very good role players each one of a PG, SG, SF, PF and C
Which player would you start SB4 for to put him in his best position?

Easily PF on both ends. Being a playmaking PF doesn't make you a PG. It's just a great skill to have.
Defensively he's a beast when he's around the rim. Not only for his shot blocking but also for his great rebounding. Having him on the perimeter is a waste on both ends.

I read ‘best natural position for $84’. I really need reading glasses.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….

Re: Best Natural Position for SB4
He's a true #1 option.
Playmaker on offense, don't have be the best "natural scorer" but the best decision maker.
and a on defence, he's a "sweeper", that you don't mind in the post, and I'd still give him a chance against big ball handlers.
I think we should get rid old school positions.
Let's come up with "new school" positions.
Maybe there's 15 type of positions, so its easier to make a group of 5 make sense.

Re: Best Natural Position for SB4
Ideally SF, so Barrett would play SG. A guy like Markkanen would be a great fit at PF, but the Raptors have nothing to trade for a player like that.
PG - Quickley
SG - Barrett
SF - Barnes
PF - Markkanen
C - Poeltl

Def PF. What you want in years like this and at least next year, have him develop his midrange game like Derozan did after Bosh left. He can get to his spots on the court, but he hasn't had much room to grow there, IE developing a 3 point shot to counter Siakam postups,
And he can get good looks from there, he's just not at the point of making them yet.

I love Scottie and Lauri as a fit. These guys need a 3&D C. Someone like Myles Turner.
And as a 6th man, you need a pesky backcourt defender who can also shoot. Ironically, someone like a young Fred VV, as he could play both on and off ball. Remember how he defended Steph Curry in 2019?

PF and it isn't close. He's too slow laterally to play SF and PG full-time. He's not tall enough to be the full-time C (and being a full-time undersized C isn't good for his knees).
Offensively, we need him to be our Jokic. He can be the hub of the offence without being the PG. Most of his scoring should come from bully ball.

PF on defense, PG on offense.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Re: Best Natural Position for SB4
For sure a four right now. We've seen Scottie best used in that Giannis spot on the defensive end as that weakside help defender as he def struggles chasing smaller/quicker players around and is probably gonna get bullied against straight up bigger/stronger offensive players, though he does try his best regadless.
Offensively, def a post/hub playmaker, who works hard on the interior cleaning up misses and bullying smaller defenders or out-pacing bigger guys. Don't like his game further out as that's not his strength, at least right now. Handle/shot not quite there yet.
That being said, who knows what Barnes develops into in a few years as he ages further into his physical prime. Doesn't need much to ascend into a mini-LeBron/Magic-type if he cleans things up and takes another leap with his handles and short-range quickness/explosiveness. His passing is already on the way there.

Hard to say. The positions have morphed and don't really follow this paradigm anymore.

I had a bottle held up under a ceiling light with a magnifying glass looking thru with one eye closed and the other squinting and I still couldn't read the damn label. Sigh. I hear ya!
edit: and voted PF. Ya sure if we got Lauri that could change.

Re: Best Natural Position for SB4
It is interesting. I've been pondering this a lot as I've tried to envision what is the best way to maximize BBQ and not just Scottie.
In that mind frame I have come to the conclusion he fits best as a 4 on defense. On offense he doesn't really need a label as he does a little of everything.
Scotties best attributes as a defender seem to be most positively reflected when he's playing as a 'big'. Shotblocking, rebounding etc. While he's agile and a good defender at times against guards, he's far more effective when that is limited as he does get exposed by some of the quicker players on the perimeter. But as a big who can occasionally switch he's great.
Quickley and RJ are poor perimeter defenders, so playing Scottie at the 3 would just further exasperate those issues.

Re: Best Natural Position for SB4
Which position he cannot defend?
PG/SG/SF are quick for him and C is much bigger than him.
And it is up to you to determine the level he can defend against PF. Can he defend against Giannis, Siakam, Banchero, Zion?

Tight end? Awesome hand eye? More pass catching and blocking down field vs at line
