Daaaamn, RIP =(

That's a sad way to start out this season. Still incredibly young too.

Met him at the the Apple Store in King of Prussia Mall about 20 years ago now. Just impossibly tall and friendly with everyone. The thing I remember most was that he and his fam/sons were all in these matching suits.

Damn. Lost a legend. RIP to Mount Mutombo. Too young.

Edit:

Is Dikembe the first Raptor era star to pass? He was a monster in the first few years of new VR raps ball. I guess he would have been smack dab in his prime at 28.

Edit 2: Kobe is the first.. just a reminder of sadness.

58 is too young. Mutombo is on the Mt Rushmore of defensive Centres imo along with Hakeem, Russell, and Wallace. 2nd most blocks in NBA history behind Hakeem, and he only started playing the NBA at age 25. Imagine what he could've done if he started as young as most players now. 2nd in ROY, 4 DPOYs, averaged 4 blocks twice (2.8 career avg), and for most of his prime played 75+ games a year. If it wasn't for the legendary Shaq/Kobe run in 00-01, he might've had a ring with Iverson.

Perhaps more importantly, he helped pave the way for and inspired, along with Hakeem, an entire continent of future NBA players. RIP king.

One of the greats. A friend of mine had the pleasure of working with Dikembe on some development projects in Africa. Always had great things to say about him.

RIP.
