Happy with Battle replacing Carlson as a 2-way

Happy Battle and Carton stay.

The Fernando vs Carlson decision will have zero long term impact on the team. At least if Poeltl goes down, it'll prevent Barnes from having to player center against guys like Embiid or Jokic.

Pretty surprised they cut Carlson though he didn’t really look like he belonged in preseason.

We should see Carton, Jakobe, Battle, Mogbo, Chomche in 905.

Carlson and Rhoden getting DNP-CD in the final preseason game was a big tell that they would be 2 of the cuts. From there, was only 1 more cut to be made between Fernando/Battle/Ramsey/Carton.

I would have rather picked up someone cut who had played well in pre-season than gift a guy that didn't play well a spot. I fully expect 30 Raptors this year, so it's small potatoes.

I wanted us to draft Filipowski at 31, so watching Mogbo stink and Fernando stink and Carlson not even get a chance to stink makes me a little annoyed. Even if Filipowski doesn't make it, you can still get excited about someone with that much skill at that age in a season like this.

I disagree about Mogbo, I see some intriguing skills there for a guy of his size. And I generally don't judge a player on like a 10ish game sample set of summer league and preseason.

Either way, he's shown he's a low usage player who fills the stat sheet. That is generally pretty positive.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Flip actually wanted to be drafted by Utah given his history.

They were likely worried about Battle getting a 2 way somewhere else.

See my post in the Mogbo thread. I don't give up faith until the start of the second season on anyone. But watching "a guy his size" put up a 31% TS in pre-season and generally have the team get whomped when he stepped on the floor was not that much fun for me. It's not like I didn't see the good things he did, too, but it was a rough start.

They needed to retain Battle & not risk someone else signing him, so I am happy about that.

I am kind of surprised they waived Carlson rather than Carton. Carton seems redundant & we need young bigs. Maybe they just didn't see "it" with Carlson. (Didn't put in the work, coachabilty, etc)

Having said that, I like Carton's game more than I like Carlson's.

I have a feeling that he & his agent forced their way to Utah. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Or it is just the only team/city where his weird personality fits.

Bruno being on the team is disappointing, was hoping he would be gone and they would take a flyer on another big that was waived. Very happy that they kept Battle around though.

new Klay Thompson :D

Despite sporadic playing time, he had 5 assists and zero turnovers shot at least 42% in each of the 5 games and at least 40% from 3, hitting from deep at least once each game. He also looked quick and decisive.

Battle earned that contract, happy for him. Bruno didn't look good and doesn't really have any upside, not happy about keeping him over Carlsen.
