After 5 games:

JA SHEAD: 20.2 MIN, 8.2 PPG, 5.6 AST, 1.2 REB, 0.6 STL, 0.2 BLK, 2.4 TO, .417 FG (7.2 ATT), .333 3PT (2.4 ATT), .875 FT (1.6 ATT), .519 TS

MITCHELL: 27.2 MIN, 8.6 PPG, 6.2 AST, 1.8 REB, 0.6 STL, 0.4 BLK, 2.8 TO, .415 FG (8.2 ATT), .263 3PT (3.8 ATT), .667 FT (1.2 ATT), .493 TS



They've actually performed very similarly so far. Both have struggled with the shot in terms of consistency and the turnovers are a little higher than you'd like but both have put the effort in on the defensive end, both have been very good from a playmaking standpoint and both have helped stabilize the guard rotation with all the injuries. Both have performed at a level you'd expect from a backup guard.

Shead all day.

A little healthy competition never hurts. Mitchell is fighting for his NBA life and it shows. I feel he's a little stronger defensively.

Amazing that we are having this conversation when just last season some of us were trying to talk themselves into Malachi f'n Flynn, or even JFL, being the backup PG of the future.

Both need to clean up the turnovers. But love the depth and the defensive trend setting.

I don't think we can realistically give Mitchell a contract at the end of the season when we have Shead right there to be the backup.

I can agree with that, despite becoming a Mitchell fan.

Brown and Mitchell would be a decent combo pickup, albeit unglamorous, for a contender at the deadline.

One thing to keep in mind, Davion has been playing opponent starters/harder competition so once IQ comes back i expect his efficiency to tick upward

I like that Mitchell plays bigger than his size. He's very sturdy and he holds his position well in the post.

I think contenders will seriously look at him if he can up his 3 point %. It's hard to play these guys much in big games if they aren't hitting open shots. There's less value for the Raps if teams view him as a 3rd/4th guard.

I actually like having both of them out there at the same time. The 2 PG lineup as a backup to Quick/Barnes.

Bucks or Nuggets could definitely benefit from a trade like that...

Davion is a bit bigger.

Shead is a pure PG. Davion's FT shooting at the end of games cost 2 possible wins. Good for the tank I guess. I'd rather start Shead than boost up Davion's trade value; which has already gone from negative to a 2nd round pick.

Yeah I've been thinking if we should cash in the "playing much better and needing to get paid" players we have: basically Ochai and Davion. I know they could be pieces for us but there is also redundancy. We have Shead and Mogbo and JKW locked up for a long time. Plus Dick, RJ and IQ that should be taking the bulk of minutes.

Sounds lie an opportunity to sell high (maybe combine with our expirings for a next year piece).

SheaDavion is the 2024/2025 version of Forderon. I like it.

Except Forderon were both good starters whereas SheaDavion are both good 3rd string PGs at the moment lol.

I love Shead's potential but he needs some major time in the G League to work on his jumper and also control his turnovers. I think he could be our full time backup PG next year.

Mitchell is a 3rd PG on a good team in this league. He can be a decent backup PG on a crappy team but the man's already 26. There isn't much potential left in him so he is what he is.

I think that is what they should do. Send Shead down to develop until Mitchell is traded. Shead in the G league will also improve the culture with the 905 and the development of the other players there. Mitchell, Boucher and Bruce Brown form a quality assortment of expirings that allow competitive teams the ability to dump future salary while not looking all out cheap in doing so.

They are putting up similar stats, but Shead has looked like a much better player. Davion just doesn't have any burst, and is somehow a worse shooter.

Between Brown, Boucher, and Mitchell, I hope we can land at least a semi-valuable player by the deadline.

We should sign Davion if we can for cheap, good to have 2 competent backups at PG, IQ is not that durable IMO and the NBA seasons are so long..

Those were exactly my thoughts. You can make an argument Shead could be better than Mitchell right now but the better long term play is for Shead to become our next Fred by leading the G League folks in the 905 that should help everyone else's development too. Then we hope he turns into our next Lowry longterm but let's not place crazy expectations yet lol.
