Oliver Rioux

This dude is 7'9, 300 lbs at age 18 who just signed with the Florida Gators. Canadian too, born in Quebec. Looking at his bio his dad was 6'8, mother 6'1 and brother 6'9.
He doesn't have a lot of highlights yet as he's just starting to play college ball, but he does seem to be dominating because of his height. We'll see how he develops in Florida. What do you think of this guy and is the NBA a possibility for the kid?

Apparently he’s not done growing which is crazy.
In the early 2000’s he’d be the 1st overall pick but in this day and age he would have to dominate college like Zach Edey to make the league.

He’s going for the Robert Wadlow award.

You can see a short write up about him by Hair Canada in the Canadian NCAA players thread.
Unfortunately, as anyone can tell you who's seen him play for any of the Canadian junior teams in recent years, he's really not good at all. There's an almost zero chance he ever gets to the NBA, and actually I'd be quite surprised if he's even a decent college player.

the young goat
but really feel for him as he's probably gonna run into some problematic health issues as he continues growing.

100% agree. He's terrible. That said. His height makes him too intriguing to ignore. Four years of college is an eternity for players like this. It's really going to come down to his drive, how much he wants it.

I have seen him play. It's not skill that will prevent him from making the NBA. It's speed. Running speed & more importantly reaction time.
He is one of those giants that looks like he is moving in slow motion. People are dunking on him before he can even react.

Oh for sure. I'm under no delusion that he's ever going to be a good or even low rotation NBA player or even pro for that matter. But i do think because of his height he may trip his way into the late second round or summer league. GMs love to think they're the ones who can turn water into wine. Ultimately, he'll likely end up in an obscure overseas league as a novelty act.

He'll likely be another lumbering big who can't stay on the floor.

Bad player. Slow and weak, and tall.

Already looks slow in those high school clips, just imagine him trying to keep up with nba players.

Wish him the best since he's from Canada but not holding my breath. Usually, anybody that tall will be very awkward and slow. Not enough co-ordination. There are exceptions like Yao Ming and Wemby but doesn't look like one of those from what I can see.

I don't see him ever being in the NBA, but I hope he can find an overseas career and make good money while he's young, seems like a good kid.
