The Ringer’s Bill Simmons ranked Barnes as the No. 6 player in the 2021 draft class on a recent episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast.” Simmons had Barnes behind Evan Mobley, Cade Cunningham, Suggs, Jalen Johnson, and Alperen Şengün, respectively, in his re-draft list of the top prospects from the 2021 draft.

NBA teams seemed to disagree with Simmons’ ranking this past summer when Barnes inked a max rookie extension with Toronto whereas none of Suggs, Johnson, and Sengun was offered a contract quite that lucrative.

I like all those guys and they’ve all gotten off to nice starts. I’m sure Simmons will change his ranking again by seasons end.

If it's just based on this season, I would put him in the Suggs/Jalen/Sengun range..and none of them are necessarily better.

Scottie also has another gear he can get to that he's shown flashes of last year, which comes down to his shot making ability, which unfortunately hasn't improved in his 1st four games of the season.

Mobley vs Barnes is a tough call. Feels like there are more PFs in the recent and upcoming drafts in contrast to genuinely good starting centers who can anchor a D and be useful on O.

Cade I don't yet. Sengun I think might have Sabonis disease where he's as good or better a regular season player than his rivals but not an ideal playoff fit, though the meta game can change or he could improve on D like a Brook Lopez (he's not as long, but mentally in the same way) managed to. Suggs I don't think so even if he's Derrick White which sure he is, and Jalen Johnson seems similar to Barnes but maybe a slightly better scorer but worse at everything else.

There is no universe where Suggs is better than Barnes.

I'd take Barnes over all those guys. Sengun is gonna have a good career though.

I don't agree with his ranking but Scottie hasn't really separated himself from the rest of those guys. They're all more or less in the same range.

Not a chance Bill Simmons has watched any non-Celtics/Raptors games involving Scottie Barnes

He has more ROTY then them all combined.

He has more All Star appearances than them all combined.

If he played for a US team, he would be ranked #1. Look at how OG is regarded now by all the media vs when in Tor.

At this point he’s just doing it to for the raptor fan engagement. Best to just ignore him.

why wasting your time when he's doing that on purpose as he know Raptors fan will go out and argue with him?

BPM: 2nd
WS: 3rd

Even if you’re an absolute hater, the worst should be 4 as I could “see” (not agree) if people wanna make arguments for any of Mobley, Sengun or Cade but I don’t wanna hear anyone else.

IMO there’s no way he’s worse than top 2 given what he’s actually done on the court (ROTY & all-star). The other guys need to at least get an all-star nod before we talk about him falling behind anyone. They’re the ones with the catching up to do, not vice versa. Bill is just a Raptors hater.

He's unprofessional, a bit of a man-child and troll who doesn't like Toronto. Simmons provides nothing of value and is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to serious or nuanced analysis. He’s just a Celtics fan with a considerable platform.
