Hypothetical:Should the Raptors try and trade Poeltl to the Thunder with Chet out 8-10 Weeks?

Should we try and move Poeltl now to the Thunder with them losing their best big man to injury?...Maybe we can get some picks + a prospect out of them if they are desperate enough and want to remain in the lead in the West?
Thoughts?

This would cement our tank... We also sell high on Yak as he's been having a great year so far, he also goes to a team desperate to fill a hole, all while they have so much picks and young assets to steal.
I can't really think of a downside here. This might be our best chance ever. I like the idea a lot.

I don't think it's realistic since they have Hartenstein coming back in 2-3 weeks.

Poeltl is fine and he's really a decent back up point guard for us at the end of his contract. Trading anyone who is healthy for an equal talent that is injured for the year is something I would consider. A massive hole at center is not what you want to create because it will mean having to burn some of your first round picks to find one or two when we are still without a clear leader. We never seem to be able to trade to acquire a top C. We gave away a lot to get Poeltl and we can't start that again. If we trade Boucher, Brown maybe Mitchell we'd have zero bench and we will not end up with more than 20-25 wins if we can keep our wins to less than 10 in the first 40 games. So, my preference is to keep Poeltl, allow this bad mix of starters to continue to be bad on defense and go to the draft for 2 more years.

They got Isaiah Hartenstein. They're fine.

They are not going to play Hartenstein 40 mins a game....Also with Chet going down they have to know they need another big man to help Chet out...Hartenstein is fine but they could really use another big like Poeltl to make a deep playoff run....They can't afford injuries to Chet and need a bruiser like Jak to bang with the bigs.... And if all it takes is 1 of their many 1st rounders and matching salary to do so im sure they will have some interest here...

I like JP and some draft asset to NO for Ives Missi and Herb Jones. Very good long-term fits
They would try to trade BB and Bruno to ATl for Clint C for C help now and resign him short contract more, long contract less. Up to him?

Contracts are tough. They'd likely have to send Dort our way and I doubt they want to do that.

The Thunder are waiting for Hartenstein to return from injury which be another week or so. He hasn't yet played a regular season game. Maybe wait til then???

Trade Boucher for Kenrich Williams (waive physical) and 2nd pick.
By the deadline, trade Bruce Brown and that 2nd pick for a 1st pick.

I'm totally fine slotting mogbo as starting center temporarily if this happens until we draft/trade for a center prospect. Sure we will lose games, but want Mogbo to get more playing time
The tricky part is salary, if OKC would part with Dort.
IQ/Mitchell/Shead
Dort/Dick
RJ/Ochai
Scottie/
Center/Mogbo
Trade Bruce and Boucher

OKC has no incentive to trade for him.
1. They have a good record, so no need to panic.
2. They rather overpayed a Bench Player instead of giving up picks for Poeltl (which Masai wanted)
So why should OKC do it?

They would need to amass a decent amount of salary to trade for Jak. I don't see OKC pulling the trigger honestly unless it's for a major difference maker.

Making a move for Poeltl as an injury replacement doesn't seem like something they would do. He would complicate their cap, and while depth is nice, carrying Chet, Hartenstein, and Poeltl is not an efficient use of their budget.
I could see them making a move for Boucher though. Capable bench player that can eat some minutes right now and be serviceable depth later in the season and in the playoffs. He's an expiring as well, so he wouldn't mess up their cap going forward. He'd cost a lot less in trade as well. A decent second? Two mid/late seconds?
They might find someone better available or they might stand pat and go small until Hartenstein gets back.
Hell, maybe they just go get Giannis, lol.

100% something I’d do, just doubtful OKC does.

Not sure how OKC could afford it, but yeah a guy like Yak would really help them. They’ll probably grab some guy like Biyombo is my guess.

OKC won't do this. They will wait on Hartenstein, look for a cheap third C. But long-term they have to figure out if they can depend on Chet or whether he is physically vulnerable because of his thin frame. The solution will likely be to draft a project big.

We can try but the Thunder aren't as stupid as us. They have Hartenstein returning soon and can probably survive the absence for a bit since they are so deep. They won't make a dumb short sighted move like trading a very lightly protected FRP for a limited center.
