Re: Tank World Order VI (Phoenix On Its Last Breath)
Relax all ye tankers. Just time to reset your expectations.
We aren't crappy enough to be true tankers. We have to be soft tankers.
That 5-10 range is our goal. Just enough losses to give us a real shot at top 4 and enough room to let our young guys player hard and develop.
With luck, Philly stays healthy and surpasses us in the next week and doesn't look back. Chicago does what Chicago does and ends up and up ahead of us but still sucky. Brooklyn keeps being overly competitive and Detroit does the same knowing they are lottery cursed anyways.
Washington
Utah
Portland
Charlotte
New Orleans
Toronto
Chicago
Brooklyn
Detroit
Kings
Pacers
Atlanta
Bucks
Miami
Lakers
San Antonio
That first tier is the elite tanker. They have no reason not to go for broke.
New Orleans has had the same issue as us. Injuries. They also have cheap ownership so they might aren't paying tax which means they probably trading Ingram. Zion is the wildcard. If he plays 40-50 games this year they probably too good to be in this range.
Out of Chicago Brooklyn and Detroit I suspect 1 of these teams will certainly out tank us. But 2 might be hard as they have to play against the east so it all comes down to who out tanks who.
So my prediction is we finish 7-8 worse with 29-33 wins. Giving us a great shot at moving up and if not there still a really strong tier of guys in this range.

Way too early to give up on things, especially with Philly/Nawlins finally climbing up the ladder.

Re: Tank World Order VI (Phoenix On Its Last Breath)
The LeBron Cavs might be the best example of the low vs. high percentage asset path.
LeBron was an immediate impact guy who sent them into the back-end of the draft right away. Spent his rookie/RFA years doing Jak trades and picking late. Best teammate was a coinflip between Big Z and Boozer. Best shot was likely the year Amare was traded to the Knicks, if they could have swung assets and convinced him (he was immediately cooked after that year anyway).
The arguable GOAT in a two man conversation couldn't win it all choosing the path we're on the precipice of right now.
How did the Cavs end up winning one? An involuntary tank as they had nothing there when LeBron left. 4 years. Got a star in Kyrie at the top of the draft. Even drafting a couple busts, the shear value of that 1st overall pick in Wiggins was enough to get another star back in Love in the trade.
In that time LeBron got the two best players he ever played with there. From an incompetent org that had the decisions basically made for them at the top of the draft. Even with a couple Canadian busts the value of the assets alone are so good it didn't matter.
The high asset path just has a lot more value to exploit and broadens your margin for error.

The Raps active roster this year features 7-8 players still on rookie contracts, 4 of which are actual rookies.
In contrast, the Cavs early rosters around Lebron were skewed much older right off the bat, there wasnt a real effort made to get younger.
Also the only reason the cavs eventually became champs is because Lebron was born in Cleveland. Had he been born somewhere else, he wouldnt have returned.

"If we suck, they will come." I think it's only really worked for any team LeBron has chosen to play for. I don't think it can be considered a serious team building practice.

Kyrie never made the playoffs before Lebron got there. At the end of the day, Lebron was the only reason they won. Kyrie is a talented player but has never done anything as the lead guy.
Spending 4 years at the bottom, you’d be expected to come out of it with at least 1-2 all-star caliber players. They somehow managed to only get one.

They also got the #1 pick 3 years out of 4 and the #4 pick in the other year. That kind of lottery luck was pretty insane even with the higher odds before.

Our problem is that 4 of our 5 core players as of next year are not, and 3 of them right now are not. We are going to be paying upwards of 100mil for Scottie/RJ/IQ as of next year, for a team that likely wont be sniffing 35 wins, thats pretty bad.
And we don't have the whole "greatest player in the world was born here" thing to fall back on lol.

Props TZ!

Re: Tank World Order VI (Phoenix On Its Last Breath)
This team is really being dragged down by a handful of players who get minutes:
Jamal Shed 45.9% True Shooting -7.3 Box +/-
Davion Mitchell 46.6% True Shooting, -5.2 Box +/-
JaKobe Walter 38.2% True Shooting, -8.8 Box +/-
That's a significant chunk of the guard roation while Quickley, Dick, and Brown are out, and their numbers are absolutely horrible. If you're pro-tank you better hope those guys don't come back any time soon because this team is going to start winning games when they replace Shed, Mitchell, and Walter in the rotation.

Wagner out for Orlando for a bit. Raps have two games vs the Magic in January.

This place is insufferable.

My question would be what would make you think this team is tanking in the first place, isn’t it a deliberate sort of thing? What indications have you seen the losses are being constructed. I’m not saying tanking isnt real, but what are yall seeing this yeah that I’m not? lol
At some point when doea it feel delusional to anticipate that.

Agreed, any 5-10 quality player drafted for us this year is a huge win and has us set up really nicely, especially with the two picks we have coming in next year as well.
I'm honestly not certain how big a gap there is between the Baileys and Demins of the world to like, the Tre Johnson and Maluachs of this draft.
Cooper or Harper I would lose my **** for. If we got Cooper a lot of people here would complain about Cooper's pure scoring upside but I think a team built around 2 Scottie type of crazy versatile, do it all players (Coop higher upside defensive but maybe not the playmaking chops), would be an insanely fun team to watch, and I believe the start to a title contending core. Just need a great shooting backcourt (IQ and Gradey backcourt would offer insane spacing, and a Barnes/Flagg forward core would support them really well on Defence).
Then at that point you just need to find that oh so valuable Rim Protector who can space the floor. And a bench.
Would be a really fun team to watch.
Harper + Barnes would be really fun as well.
