Cannot watch game if Olynyk is on floor anymore

Olynyk has been struggling, but the amount of gimme shots this guy has missed and stupid turnovers I have seen in the last couple games is just awful to watch. If he wasn’t on the Raptors he would not be in the NBA right now. Sad to see Valanciunas sign with the Wizards for less money than Olynyk and the wizards actually have a tradeable asset for free. Raptors will have to pay Olynyk another two years and hopefully the just cut him and pay him out at the end of this year. Chalk it up as a loss.

He makes me want to pour bleach in my eyes. That 2nd year on the contract is going to hurt us. Masai bidding against himself as usual.

Masai clearly misread the market by giving Olynyk an extension, it is what it is. It does suck having to watch a vet scrub it out there though.
If we're gonna suck, I'd rather suck with our youth so at least there's something we can hopefully build on in the future. Let's see if Masai trades him at the deadline or does his usual "can't meet my price so I'll screw up an asset" thing he's been doing since 2020.

Wrong on so many levels.
Last game out of the 11 guys who played the most, he had the 2nd best +/-. Game before that 9 main guys played and he had the best +/-. Game before that, again team best +/-.
He isn't getting killed out there like some think. Yes he is poor defensively but when playing, he is going better than lots of others getting caved.
On offense, yes he has missed some shots inside he usually makes. But he is shooting 45% from 3 too that you can't ignore. Both numbers likely normalize as the season goes on. Maybe being hurt all year with a bad back and only playing 7 games impacts things. Hmm...
Turnovers, yup he has had too many. Get in line. They ALL have too many.
If traded, he will get value. Just watch. I have no issue saying I am wrong if he isn't.

Not saying he is even an average defender, but he actually has one of the better DRTG on the team and even better than Jak.
Bigger issue has actually been the offense, we haven't been able to score at all as a team while he's been on the floor.
His own offense however should normalize over a larger sample size. He's been an extremely efficient scorer for years now and is only at 57 TS% this year. He's shooting a career low 59% at the rim where he is 71% career and 11% from 3-10 ft where he is around 44% career.

Nice to see rationalized thinking.
People are going on and on like he is the one killing the team but as I stated in the other thread, over the last 5 games he is a combined +2 while the team is -55. He at least is winning his minutes...despite his flaws.

He isn't bad, he would be a lot better as a full time PF instead of C. I'm hoping we can swing an Agbaji for C trade. We badly need another good C on this roster.

JV has really helped the Wizards win games this year. I’m sure teams will be lining up for JV this year.

His passing was actually better than Barnes, maybe he sees others play and knows where they are cutting.
I think his purpose is to see how Barnes can perform with a stretch big, and we see all of the lineups were Barnes (except this lineup: K. Olynyk - C. Boucher - G. Dick - J. Walter - J. Shead with 1 possession on last game)
On the last game, the other possessions (are with Barnes for 5-out offense with Boucher stretching as well) seems to be a mix on offense:

Crazy this thread was created before the "I can't watch anymore Boucher thread". Chris makes me roll my eyes almost everytime he touches the ball.

You want to see how Scottie and RJ can play with a floor spacing big...you got your chance. No complaining about it once you see it.
He's making 12 and 13 million per season...so barely a dent in the cap. He's a calming vet presence that can help the young guys in the 2nd unit. His passing and shooting are skills needed from the bench.

He just looks washed, we got him at the tail end of his career.
He's a stopgap player in a tanking season, basically better than nothing....the FO needs to find a young center to develop asap.

TBF, he barely sees the court lol.
But we've got brilliant comments like he's actually been good as a defender, and that his passing has been better than barnes, so KO takes the cake IMO.

I get the concept of seeing the team with a floor spacing big, but all those "barely a dent in the cap" contracts add up. 13mil from KO, 23mil from BB, an extra 2-5mil on IQ's contract, and congrats you have close to enough space for a max contract. Now, I'm not suggesting we try and acquire a max level contract, but rather the flexibility lost by having these dead contracts adds up.
Masai rarely has albatross contract signings, but he regularly ends up with these types of "well it's not that bad" kind of contracts, and for a team that desperately needs wins on the margins, these actively limit those chances.

Kelly is shooting over 40% from 3 as a C and it ain’t doing **** for us or for Scottie. I’m glad this obsession with Scottie needing this stretch big can come to an end lol. Because the reality is most Cs who are “stretch” bigs (which aren’t many) either don’t even shoot it as well as Kelly or if they do they take just as few 3s as Kelly.
Turner, Porzingis, KAT, Wemby (who is still developing) and Jokic are the only Cs in the league who actually shoot the 3 at a good percentage and take enough 3s a game for it to matter. If you shoot 35-38% from 3 as a C (and most don’t), but take like 2 a game you aren’t scaring anyone. You aren’t providing this “spacing” y’all think they are. No one is changing their defensive coverage because of a C who shoots 37% but takes only 2 a game lol. If you lose bc of that you live with it.
I much rather have a rim protecting C who can set good screens and finish in the paint at a high level. If you so happen to find one who can do those things AND hit the 3 amazing, but those Cs are so rare in this league. Poeltl who can’t shoot a lick is one of the most important players for our offence. We are much better in the half court with Poeltl. Poeltl is actually a much better offensive player than defensive player at this point in his career.
And that’s because he sets good screens, can pass and finishes those push shots in the paint with the best of them. He also has great foot work in the pick and roll. He also knows how to navigate screens to put himself in advantageous spots to make it easier for the ball handler to find him. The RJ and Poeltl pick and roll is so good and Poeltl is a big reason for it. There is so much more to being a good offensive player or helping an offence succeed beyond stretching the floor. Especially for a C. I wish ppl could see that.
This idea that we NEED a stretch C for Scottie to be at his best and for us to eventually contend is bull. If we get one WHO ALSO DEFENDS cool. I would never be mad at that. But there are like 5 of those if that in the league currently, so the likelihood of finding that big is extremely low.

Team needs a stretch C to get the best out of Barnes, and he remains the best bet for these 2 rebuilding years. We can't properly scheme around the Jak problem until he's fully out of the lineup. Jak remains an issue you can't really work around. Impacts every play and spacing issue we have, and kills offensive development.
No point talking about proper roles until he's off the team and the schemes can change accordingly.

not that he was an athletic demon before but he literally can't jump at all anymore. watching him lose rebounding battles to guards is hilarious.
between thad and now kelly o, masai showing a real love for washed up fowards. they obviously thought he may have value to a contender as a trade asset but I doubt other teams are completely blind. and he was playing well for utah last season before he got dealt so they obviously thought that was who they were getting.
at least he's an expiring next year so at worst he's just a glorified canuck haslem next season.

I'm pretty confident the FO had no real interest in trading him, and they got him specifically to provide that flexibility in looks and veteran experience to the lineup. I assume they have no issue keeping him for those reasons, but will take assets if someone wants to throw some at us.
His contract is only a concern if we wanted to pull off one of those very big trades involving most of our expirings. But if that's the case, I'd fully expect one of RJ or Jak to be in the deal to provide some of that value while offsetting some of the cap burden.

From the eye test, he looks completely washed from a physical stand point and the back is clearly still bothering him out there but what's surprising is he's actually rebounding at a career high rate right now. He's at 10.6 Reb per 36 while his career rate is at 8.3 so he's actually performing better than expected in this area.

Sorry man, I know you are a Raptors fan and I got respect because I’ve been a fan since 2001. Anyhow, you’re absolutely delusional if you think Raptors get anything in return for a player performing like this. No contending team wants a guy that can’t defend at a high level, turns the ball over and is a liability on offence. Raptors will have to give up assets to get rid of his contract.. but hey if you’re right and they get a second round pick or something, I will be happy for this team. I hope you’re right and I’m wrong. But I’ve seen this far too many times.. this is another Landry Fields contract. I like all this wishful thinking though.
