He'll appeal and get most of the money back. Riley must be fuming right now.

Next tweet will be from Butlers agent saying they will appeal the suspension with NBAPA.
Just get a deal done and move on

7 games is insane, Riley is definitely trying to send a message.

the question is what team wants to give Jimmy that extension since that's why he's pissed in the first place? doesn't seem like there's a real market for that either and any team that trades for him would be giving him that or he'll be doing the same crap he's doing now.

Is this nicer or worse situation than his trade from Minnesota?

That's the most knee-jerk move by Riley I've ever seen. Wheels coming off the wagon.

I bet Butler didn’t expect Riley to do that. Can’t say it isn’t deserved though, the guy was giving no effort in the last two games he played.

Maybe we could be a 3rd team (Bruce as salary filler to Miami) in a Jimmy Butler trade, and we can end up with a young player that the heat don't want from the Rockets.
Sort like Jarret Allen to Cleveland, when the Rockets, for some reason, didn't want him.

I have him in fantasy too and I knew it was coming as soon as he sat out for like 2 weeks there with an “illness.” He was hoping to be traded before he even came back from that and then decided to make it clear to Riley the last two games with his play that a trade was the only way forward.

I have no problem with it honestly. There's probably other stuff Jimmy's done behind the scenes that haven't been publicly outed. You know he's being a big D away from the cameras.
Playing like crap after coming back from a 5 game "illness" then putting out that press conference statement, while basically asking for a trade, is certainly conduct detrimental to the team. No boss should put up with that, we've just gotten used to stars getting their way. Not with Riley though.

We don't really know how many years he's asking for, even if he does want max money. Regardless, he's not going to get anything in FA given the new cap rules and teams shying away from FA and it's clear Riley has no intention of giving him an extension right now. His best bet is to get traded as any team that trades him is going to be comfortable at some number he and his agent have indicated. He really has no other choice than to do this if he wants an extension.

lol, you just repeated everything I just said and that's my entire point. what team is gonna want to give him that extension? Especially after acting a fool again and quitting on a team and he's been pretty injury prone recently too. Obviously it would be 2/3 years at least or he'd be happy just opting into his player option but he's obviously looking for more long-term security.
It could be a desperate team like the Warriors who want to potentially make the most of Steph's remaining years but it's a steep financial cost even if it may not cost much in terms of player/picks going to Miami.
The Rockets also make some amount of sense but that's a risk to make him the guy with that young team and you never know if a bigger star becomes available. What if the Suns decide to blow it up? I think they'd probably rather have Durant.
The Heat are confident they'll get on fine without him and I think that's a fine attitude. No one is bigger than the team and they won't be held hostage.

gsw are the most likely candidate, need wise, extension wise, trade wise.
curry has 2 years left after this, draymond, 1 + 1, sign butler to a 2 year extension and all 3 will expire at the same time.
