If we land outside the top 5 I hope we draft Queen. The playoffs will show the three point era continue, the need for interior defense isn't what it use to be but I would still get a 2nd pick to have an interior rim protector.

Okay so there is one Poeltl trade I do like, assuming that Mark Williams is considered untouchable/too early to give up on to the Hornets, and that's to the Grizzlies:
Image
Some quick notes:
-No you're not getting Edey for Poeltl. Yes, Jakob is better than him and there's no guarantee Zach becomes as good as Poeltl is now but that's besides the point.

-This obviously becomes much more difficult money-wise if they do trade for Jimmy Buckets and if I had to choose between Jimmy and Jakob? Yeah it's Jimmy 9 times out of 10.

-Aldama is, on paper, a perfect center to place next to Scottie. Shooting nearly 39% on his 3s and taking about 4.5 a night? You do need to pay him but he's well worth keeping around.

-How much you want to argue about draft capital, I think at least a first with some protections seems fair? Especially with Ja's injury history, the Grizzlies could very well end up in another situation like last season. I think i'd prefer a 26 pick to 25 since the options to replace Jakob through the draft this year are pretty bad outside of Malauch who seems poised for the lottery.

What would the picks look like in a trade like this

Raptors get-
Marcus Smart (2 years)
Brandon Clarke (3 years)

Heat get- all expirings, and save $5ish Million this year
Bruce Brown
Chris Boucher
Luke Kenard
Santi Aldama

Grizzlies get-
Jimmy Butler
Nikola Jovic

And the only one with any significant trade value is Jak. Unless you want to take back long term money.

I'm not sure they trade Jak with nothing waiting behind him. However, he's most likely gone after next year as a free agent. Now is the time to trade him. Contrary to what this front office believes, you don't get better trade value as an expiring contract (when you are good).

Kevin Love instead of Jovic makes more sense for Miami and save them $6 million.

Raptors get-
Brandon Clarke (3 years)
2025 1st pick (Mem)

Heat get- all expirings, and save $5ish Million this year
Marcus Smart (2 years)
Luke Kennard
John Konchar
Ochai Agbaji
Bruno Fernando (waive)
2027 1st pick (Mem)

Grizzlies get-
Jimmy Butler
Kevin Love
Pelle Larson
2025 2nd pick (Por)
2027 2nd pick (Mia)

Brown and Boucher you pretty well need to get what you can get for at this point;
Yak and Davion I would be surprised if they were moved, maybe Davion less so?

They will move Davion for anything that is offered, they're not going to bring a guy back that is being benched for a rookie putting up a 47 TS%.

We should consider keeping Mitchell on a cheap contract. He brings defense and will push guys in practice where we need him the most. This should make IQ, Barrett, and the rest of our guards better.

Olynyk and Brown will be shopped and sold for anything we can get which will likely be 2nd round picks and expiring contracts. If the contract length for the returned player isn't an expiring and they have little to no value I hope we get a 1st rounder.

Boucher and Yak will probably continue to be Raptors. Boucher because he's just not an NBA level player, and Yak because our front office is stupid. We should be turning him into flexibility we could use down the road when we're contenders. The Aldama + 2026 1st is a weak trade. Since the pick isn't very valuable there should be another added and a third swap added in 2028.

Goal should be to add at least one more 1st to our war chest this deadline.

I think the value of the guys who are expiring Brown (23m) Boucher (11m) and in theory Davion (6.5m) are more tied to them being used as ballast with us being a third team in a larger deal than the guys themselves.

I would imagine Brown will end up with a contender after he is traded and bought out

Bleacher Reports shot in the dark Bruce Brown Trade:

To Spurs
Bruce Brown

To Raps
Zach Collins
Malaki Branham
Sidy Cissoko
2025 (Lotto Protected) FRP from CHO (Will likely convey to 2x SRPs)

This...feels like an overpay for Bruce. I know Collins contract isn't good but it isn't this bad, right?

Also that Bulls pick is a lot better than it looks. Top 10 now but the protections go down to 6 if I recall so it had a very good chance of conveying a lottery pick to us.

It stops sounding like an overpay when you factor in its the Cats pick which will almost certainly end up being 2x SRPs.

I don't hate it;
Collins just becomes another expiring next season to park beside Olynik if he isn't moved;
We get a flyer on Malaki Branham who has been fairly unspectacular in 2.5 seasons but is shooting near 40% from three this year and is still just 21 and you get a pair of SRPs, not great, not terrible.

Whereas the Spurs get a guy they want and likely keep in the off-season at a lower salary but for more years.

Definitely a mediocre return until you consider that Collins' salary next year is $18 million, which eats up most of the Raptors' room under the tax next year, pending other moves. You definitely have to do better if you're taking on that much salary next year, particularly for a player who has pretty limited value.

Pick 35ish + branham + another 2026 hornets 2nd. Is pretty good value to take collins. He isn't worth 18 mil, but at least 8mil.
