Poeltl is having a career year but having said that the Raptors are obviously in a complete rebuild. As of now the Raptors could have had Leonard Miller/Whatever prospect that they wanted that did not go top 5 in this years draft, as well as this years 2025 2nd round pick. Is the stability that Poeltl provides worth giving up those assets as of today?

What stability

He’s been a fine player for us, more than worth his contract but that was never really the issue. It’s more so the cascading effect it had on 2 draft cycles that we should have been using to add real lotto talent to our roster beside Scottie.

For that alone, that trade will always be a L no matter how well Poeltl plays unfortunately.

He's on a very good contract and will have good trade value if things don't go well next season.

We suck gonads with him. It shouldn't be too hard to find a league average C after him. He's not that big of a deal on this roster, guys.

If you can get a decent 1st in this or the next draft for him, you pull the trigger IMO.

You know you can just sign vets in the offseason, right?

Came here to say exactly this, not to mention how we lost Fred and other assets for less than their desirable package.

The OG trade has the one brightside major transaction Masai has accomplished since the championship.

The Poeltl trade and its downstream impact has been a disaster.

Fair value but horrendous timing

I still maintain the Thad Young trade was worse since we could have gotten Walker Kessler with the 1st we gave up to dump Dragic and thus we:
1. Would be in a better spot for the rebuild
2. Would have never done the Poeltl trade
3. Would be more likely to blow it up in 2023 instead of buying/staying put at that year's deadline when they have 2 young players who can contribute right away

Te NBA was not going to let Wemby end up in Toronto. They wanted him as a Spur to be Tim Duncan 2.0. The NBA is also not going to allow Flagg to be in Toronto either.

The trade is still a massive L. We traded the #8 pick and 2x SRPs for a role player.

Whoever we drafted at #8 would have been an actual piece to grow with the core. Yak will be gone in a year, and even if we overpay to keep him, he's going to be on the decline once our core reaches its prime.

I think best outcome with Poeltl is a middling play-in team. We have seen him get bullied by Towns, Jokic, or even Zubac or stretched out by Vucevic and Wemby. He is a bit soft and depends on his athleticism to cover guards on drives and can't shoot outside ten feet. He is miles better than any current option on the team, but that doesn't mean we build around him. No contending team would start him, and using him on a lottery team isn't going to raise the floor.

His contract is good and value at his highest, and if we get some of what we lost it would be good. Remember, since we traded for him we have not become an elite defensive team or adequate offensive team - we have lost a lot of games.

Masai/Bobby just have to admit we lost the trade with SA. It is just time to recoup our losses into a future asset that may or may not pan out. The other bonus is getting rid of his future salary to take on bad contract(s) and more picks. We need to create some flexibility and better draft assets.

If they knew they weren't going to pay what it takes to keep FVV, they should have never made the trade. Even the FO admitted as such. Not sure why we need to rehash it.

Regardless, he's a legitimate starting C, on a good contract and they should move him to get assets. This team is too far away.

Kelly isn't even a C. So effectively, Poeltl has no back-up. Koloko would have been it, but, you know...

Jakob is a good C I think we can all agree. The issue was that the timing of trade for a team that wasn't competitive, and only exasperated our spacing issues. Not to mention giving away 3 picks that we could have had for our rebuild.

It's one thing if we're like OKC and needed that big man to solidify our starting lineup to take us to another level, but we're not and the FO fumbled that one.

The Thad trade was pretty bad too, but the Poeltl trade still takes the cake for me as one of the worst Masai trades.

We were 6th from the bottom iirc and it was a draft where we can possibly acquire a generational talent in Wemby. Some say it went to the Spurs because they were 3rd and we were never going to be that bad, but one can only say that in hindsight. Nobody knew at the time who was going to win the lottery. We should have continued tanking that season and secured the best odds to win the lottery.

The low pick protections for the Poeltl trade is still baffling today.
