Adam Silver has floated the idea of 10 minute quarters.

What sayest thou? Is shrinkflation coming for the NBA?

Not a fan, I think they should shorten the season by 10 games and make the play-in tournament or the playoffs a bit longer somehow when the games actually matter and are way more exciting.

I'm also a stat geek and would hate to compare era's when players today now average less due to shortened games.

I don’t think every single thing needs to be changed. Who the hell has a problem with the quarter length?

No one.

Players want their stats/placement in bball history.

It would reduce injuries and prolong careers.

Not a fan mostly because we wouldn't have enough time to make a comeback

how? star players will still play 36-38ish min in a 40 min game.
thibs starters may never come off the court.

I'm generally opposed to rule changes that effect lineage with past seasons.

You and I are on opposite sides of this assumption.

Nope. I think it's a particularly stupid idea.

I'm also into stats and yeah, it's just another way to differentiate between eras/another opportunity for people to be highly subjective.

I can see it now, "30 points in that era is like 20 points since we have 10 min quarters."

I really hear you!

Even if all other pro basketball and high amateur basketball games are 10 minute quarters - as Adam Silver suggests in the article?

I couldn't possibly care less about not-the-NBA in this context.

Fair enough. I do buy into the injury management aspect of things though. As other posters suggested - Thibs might still be Thibs, lol.

We'll see. There are more injuries now than in previous eras, and there is some indication that the more angular nature of the game has led to that, but there are ways around that and players who are still fairly durable. And teams load manage without much indication that this actually helps, which is an issue in and of itself.

They need to keep quarter minutes the same because it would impact historical stat & data comparisons going forward.
