Stein: Raptors, Hawks frontrunners for Brandon Ingram
This has been discussed in the trade rumor thread but wanted to create a separate thread for further discussion.
Worth noting, Stein was the first to report Raps interest in Poeltl a few seasons ago before the Raps traded for him.
Ingram is currently in his final season and will become an UFA in summer.
My assumption is that our package would look similar to the one we got for Pascal, so something like... Brown + Filler (Boucher/Olynyk) + Davion + IND 1st + POR 2nd
If we were to trade for him, do you believe he'd be a good fit moving forward?
I'm kind of on the edge. I think I'd be happy if we could trade our expirings for him and then re-sign him for ~35mil AAV.

If Masai pulls that off, he's the GOAT.

I like BI. If you ask me rn who are you most confident getting you a bucket? My answer might be idk but w BI it would probably be BI.

Right, we don't want a rental for chasing the play-in. Just wait until July and throw money at him.

I gotta think, if Masai offered a first, Ingram would already be a raptor.

I probably lean that it happens. I hope we hold firm on just seconds and rest him
We will soon learn whether Ingram could become ensnared by all of the Golden State/Durant/Butler machinations. Remember: Ingram's name has been attached to potential multi-team constructs regarding Butler and Miami for weeks.
We're likewise still awaiting word on developing trade possibilities that could simply deliver Ingram out of New Orleans to one of two known suitors. The Pelicans, sources said, have held ongoing dialogue with both Toronto and Atlanta about acquiring Ingram.
Also important to remember: New Orleans has to be mindful of some strict accounting concerns. No matter what business the Pelicans complete by Thursday's deadline, they were determined to get themselves out of luxury tax territory and did so with a Wednesday afternoon deal to send Daniel Theis' $2.1 million salary to Oklahoma City. In any scenario where the Pelicans take on future money for Ingram, such as landing the Atlanta Hawks' Bogdan Bogdanović, New Orleans is expected to seek further draft pick compensation in addition to their high valuation on Ingram as a former All-Star.
There would seem to be a realistic pathway for Toronto to match the bulk of Ingram's salary with Bruce Brown's expiring $23 million contract, but the Raptors and Pelicans have discussed various scenarios for Ingram, sources said.

I mentioned in the rumours thread RJ+Boucher for BI + picks works. We can't acquire him without sending out any long term salary like IQ/RJ, we cannot afford that SL. And it sounds like NOP wants a good return on BI, so they won't likely take just expirings, and Masai should be fired if he gives up picks for BI.

Props TZ!

Re: Stein: Raptors, Hawks frontrunners for Brandon Ingram
I honestly haven't followed Ingrams career all that closely. I do remember him torching us a few years back & being impressed with his shot making ability. Other than that, all I know is that he has been injured lot. He seems like a poor man's KD?
If we can get him without giving up any of our sub 25 y/o players, I say why not.
Its worth a risk. It's kinda like a low level Kawhi trade. Gamble on an oft injured player that has talent & hope it works out.

Re: Stein: Raptors, Hawks frontrunners for Brandon Ingram
I don't love Ingram but to me there are 3 main factors,
What do we give up to get him?
What are the terms of the contract?
Do we sit him to tank out the rest of the season?
These 3 things would guide my view of the trade.
Ideally no 1sts, 30-35, yes.

Why cant we afford it?

We should not be giving up draft picks for Ingram. If we're that desperate to get in on our team next year, we can sign him then.
But yeah, if all they want is expirings, then... sure, I guess?

Re: Stein: Raptors, Hawks frontrunners for Brandon Ingram
I think many of us would easily have traded Pascal for Ingram - especially as player who is more complimentary to Scottie - so the Pacers pick has to be looked at in that context. The Pascal trade has already netted us Walter, Olynyk and Ochai.
I proposed this in the Shead thread (lol). I want to unload IQ's salary. So how about Ingram and CJ for IQ, Brown and Boucher? We're doing Pels a big favour by taking on CJ's ridiculous salary commitment for next year, and IQ is legitimately a good player, so I'm not sure how much draft capital is necessary. But the Portland pick if they insist.

We would need to talk to Ingram to and get a sense of his thoughts on re-signing to, and if he would play ball with taking the rest of the year off which could be problematic.

Re: Stein: Raptors, Hawks frontrunners for Brandon Ingram
Hawks are always in the way. They annoyed us last season with Siakam trade proposals and now they are driving the price up for Ingram. I swear Landry Fields should owe us for his wasted time as a Raptor when he forgot how to play basketball.
I would just put a single offer and give them until today before we back out. No need to give NOP any leverage for a damaged asset.

Hawks have all the picks in the world to get Ingram.
But it's near impossible for them to put together a package worth 36mil (to align w/ Ingram).
Only guys on Hawks making more than 10mil:
Trae (NOT TRADING)
Hunter (NOT TRADING)
Risacher (NOT TRADING)
Onyeka (NOT TRADING)
Bogdanovic (3yr/17mil AAV)
Capela (1yr/22mil AAV)
Nance Jr (UNABLE TO BE TRADED)
So by process of elimination - their offer would have to be Capela + Bogdanovic + Picks
But here's the problem ... Pels can't afford to have Bogdanovic on the books for the next 3 years w/ that AAV.
Which means.... only the Raps can put together a package that the Pels would entertain (i.e., expirings to gain cap flexibility + picks).
If the reports of Raps and Hawks being the last two standing for Ingram are accurate, then expect Ingram to be traded to the Raps by 3pm tomorrow.

Another SG? Who the hell runs the point, CJ lol? Also that still makes us too expensive.

I really don't think it will take more than the pick proceeds of trading our expirings and Kelly to get Ingram. I would be very much against moving IQ for Ingram. Taking on CJ on top is absolutely a no unless we are being compensated on that too.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
