Roster Spots - How Many and What To Do With Them

Assuming we buy-out or waive PJ, that will open up a second available roster spot?

Is that correct?

I imagine we’ll convert Battle with one of them. What about the other?

Thoughts?

We desperately need a backup big and PJ passing on his defensive perspective to Scottie and our young guns is probably something valuable. Not sure if there’s anyone who wants PJ more than what we are looking for from him, but that’s just my own opinion.

We probably convert our two ways into proper contracts. Jamison Battle/Ulrich Chomche.

Side note: I’d like to see Ben Simmons on our team as backup PF/C.

Pick up Ben Simmons once he's been bought out?

We have room for 2 spots right now since we traded a 2 for 1 with Ingram.

Currently have 13 players including Tucker and the min is 14..... will probably announce a signing later today to meet the minimum

That would be interesting.

I think we convert Battle. I doubt Chomche gets converted.

Might make sense to keep a spot open for 10 day contracts. Give Kaminsky a couple of 10 days to replace Kelly. See how he does.

I think the most simple route will probably be the one taken. Convert Battle to a full contract, two-way Orlando Robinson and then leave the 15th spot open for a parade of 10-days.

Slight adjustment - two-ways don't count as full roster spots, if I'm not mistaken. So if they cut Tucker, they'd need to give two players full contracts, and then add another to a two-way.

So maybe something like: cut Tucker, convert Battle to a full contract, give Robinson a full contract (one of those two year deals where they can essentially cut him in training camp next year with minimal penalty), and upgrade Eugene Omoruyi to a two-way. Then they'd still have a 15th roster spot open to try guys out on 10-day contracts for the rest of the year.

There is no need to convert Battle to a regular contract this season. He is already on a 2-way contract so unless we want him to play every game for the rest of the season, he can stay 2-way and still come up from time to time. I personally want to see Battle in the 905 and help them win in the playoffs.

With the departure of Mitchell, I think we are going to try out another back up PG again since IQ is still injured and we only have Shead left. The last spot will probably be going to Orlando Robinson (or another big that may be available during this buyout period). It seems like the Raptors value Orlando more than James Wiseman (or at least don't want to wait until next season to try to rehab James).

I think we give Battle one of those spots and the other to Orlando Robinson. We need a big.

Jakobe Walter is getting POA time and looks like he's a SG/PG and sufficient as an SGA style PG. He has an A/T of around 2, so that's good enough.

PG IQ - Shead - Walter

IQ / Shead / Temple
Barrett / Agbaji / Walter
Ingram / Dick / Battle
Barnes / Boucher / Mogbo
Poeltl /

So 12, assuming we sign Battle and 2W Robinson

TW: Lawson, Robinson, Chomche

I assume we pick up a bunch of 4/5's and maybe a backup PG and hope to strike gold.

Chomche is on a 2 year 2-way to halt the start of his rookie contract (so he can develop more), they arent going to start that clock before they have to.

I am quite confident there is probably already an agreement with Battle to convert to full contract post trade deadline. He is a lights out shooter that you can secure for several years on a cheap contract. You give him the contract out of good faith & to show him that you want him here over the long term. Similar to what they did with Fred. Battle has had a great attitude. He has worked hard & done everything he was asked to do. Time to be rewarded.

Yeah. I was thinking they should develop him into a jack of all trades player like Doug Christie. A guy who can play minutes at PG, distribute the ball, defend, score when needed.

Having a long defender at PG is a huge luxury for certain matchups.
