From the standpoint of his quote on him having zero control over what trump does, obviously he’s right. But him saying nothing about what Trump is doing in support of Canada, not wearing a Canada jersey as a rep of the team and giving thumps up to the American team. He deserves to be criticized. It wouldn’t have been hard for him to throw out a few very light words of support but to say absolutely nothing is indefensible in my opinion.

WE are the "fools"? Coming from a guy who lives in a country who elected this incompetent turd TWICE? I couldn't care less about Gretzky or what anyone in that ****hole country thinks about Canadians.

Americans are not really in a position to call anyone else fools while they live in glass houses.

He's misreading the situation pretty badly. Even some of my colleagues (I work with many Americans) were surprised to see some of the wild stuff being put on the table by the administration, my favourite yesterday being that they believe the US/Canada border is fictional.

If he thinks Canadians won't be patriotic when the actual sovereignty of the nation is in question and some people ally themselves with the aggressor, then he really never understood us in the first place.

To be fair, in the quotes in the article, Barkley also calls the people in the US government "fools". It's just a word he likes to throw around.

But he definitely doesn't understand the situation, or why a lot of Canadians have issues with Gretzky's silence. He should have just stayed away from this topic entirely.

I don't take it too seriously, though, because this is what Barkley does (make dumb comments about things he doesn't understand) and I don't think he ever really means ill by it. He'll be back talking about how much he loves Canada and how great Toronto is in no time.

Of course. I actually don’t have much respect for anyone spending money in states unless it is work or family related. I don’t blame people that have non-refundable tickets either. Otherwise, what are you doing?

Yup, not a single american made product is being purchased in my household. And I wouldnt travel to the US for any reason other than a work requirement, and that was before all this, that place is a **** mess.

The switch from US to CAN products has been shockingly easy.

Yes. As much as possible. I look at labels when I buy things or food. It's a conscious decision every time.

It warmed my heart to see all of the American products pulled from LCBO shelves. **** that orange **** stain wannabe dictator and **** Wayne Gretzky as well for supporting him.

Does this dude know that Gretzky has gone around wearing Maga hats and his wife is very much a huge supporter, openly? This guy has also put himself into clear politics and has not denounced anything. There’s legit indication that he’s supporting the US and especially Trump. It was absolutely dumb for Canada to have this guy represent Canada at the 4 nations. He’s not even Canadian anymore - very different from his dad.

I just hope that even if they switch to a Dem leader in the states 4 years later, Canada should still look to diversity its trade. Cause another idiotic leader can pop up.

Gretzki is a polish/ukranian canadian who made it big in America after being traded there. Expect little to no loyalty from someone who has spent more time living in America than Canada his entire life.
