Just read about potential new contract for Josh Giddy... comparisons made with IQ.
Who do you prefer? GIDDY OR IQ
Comp wise, what do you think Josh will get?
One is age 25 the other much younger...22 I think.

I'd be very much happier with Giddey. He's a much better player.

quickley, not by much though. the volume 3pt shooting is the tipping point.

IQ.
Giddey isn't good enough to lead a team, and doesn't have the skills to fit beside good players in important games (which is why he is not in OKC).
Giddey is having a hell of a stretch on the back of shooting 46% from 3 in his last 20 games. Outside that he is a career 14/8/6 guy on poor efficiency. No thanks.

I believe Giddy isnt a good shooter yet, and unlikely to be a good defender. This is the reason OKC traded him and not wanting to pay that much.
Quickley is not as good of a PG as Giddy, but provides more from. A starter stand point. But wish he can contribute more as compare to other starting PG.

He's an acceptable defender, but surely no All-D guy. He is reasonable at contesting shots and getting deflections, he's an excellent rebounder, he's a very good passer. And he's actually been improving as a shooter over time. His FT% has improved, as has his 3P%, he's getting more use from the corner and that's a big part of the increased 3P%. And he's actually been quite consistently good from like 3-16 feet.
The main value-add Quickley has over Giddey is ATB shooting. That's pretty much it.

I like Giddey, but on this team I prefer IQ... We really need the above average 3pt shooting from the pg position.

FWIW, on the season, Quick is shooting 39.3% ATB and Giddey 35.8%. The drop-off actually isn't THAT bad, particularly given the large differences in everything else they do.

Giddey basically putting up Scottie Barnes numbers minus a few shot attempts.

I mean, he's been a considerably better shooter, a bit better a rebounder and a better passer. It isn't just shooting volume, it's the passing and the shooting efficiency as much as anything else.

Possible this is "contract year" Giddy. That said he's always seemed like a promising young player.

Sure, but you need to take into account the amount of attempts... IQ=6.6 vs Giddey=4

Yeah, there's a volume difference. My point was more that he can make of himself enough of an ATB threat to shift a D, while providing all of the other stuff he does so much better than Quickley.

I am surprised he isn't a very good passer, but he has a bit more turnover than Quickley, while Quickely is catching up on the assist rate.
Definitely, Quickley has that pull up 3, even Griddey is shooting in the 37% from 3s.
As for defense, neither are elite, I just feel Quickley has better wingspan to be a better defender, probably as you said not by much.

I think it is pretty comfortable to say that Quickley is a more natural shooter, and a better shooter overall. That doesn't seem like much of a debate to me, it's more than Giddey is good enough that it can be tolerated given what else he brings to the table.

Maybe. I don't think it matters much. I'd rather have what Giddey brings. I think it's a moot point, of course, as I don't expect us to have any capability to acquire him. But given the choice...

Giddey. He's younger and has the potential to get even better. The only problem is he essentially fills the same role as Scottie on offence. IQ is a much better fit next to Scottie.
