Did we find a gem in lawson?

Post#1 » by Snappycoocoo » Sun Mar 16, 2025 2:33 am

Benefits/takeaways of his game?

I think we found a good shooter this team has been missing with an explosive side to his game. This biggest opportunity he's been given and is killing it. Shooting it from 3 as well

If he continues playing like this dick is expendable

I like his game.

Right now he's making Gradey expendable the same way Money Weems made Demar expendable..

Yeah. Pretty much this.

I watched Lawson on the 905 pretty closely & felt the team should.have given him a shot. He checked quite a few.boxes. I am not super surprised he is having some.success.

Super athletic guy with some decent length that can hit the 3. There is always spots available.for.guys like.that.

Define "gem" ?

He's looked great against other D-League talent to bad our schedule is garbage and we can't see
how he looks against NBA teams trying and playing quality NBA players but I have picked him up on
some Fantasy teams.

At 24 I don't know how much upside he has and how he would get playing time over Ingram, RJ,
Gradey, Jakobe, Ochai and Battle plus the top 10 of this draft is wing heavy.

I'm open to him taking Garrett Temples roster spot next year though.

Too small a sample size to say anything definitively....it's 3 good games after 2 poor games.

Case in point, Dowtin is averaging over 20 ppg his last 3 games.

Now adding him as depth for cheap depth next year to find out more...sure, go ahead.

I wasn’t a huge demar fan but dick is not even close to demar in terms of talent. Dick is so overrated and again I’m worried that the way he’s being coddled by the org is gonna lead to hanging on to him for way too long

When has a 25 or so year old GLeaguer ever turned into a borderline all star?

Who said anything about him becoming a "border line all star" ???

People are just wondering if he's a reliable bench piece moving forward. Pump your brakes.

No, we found another 3rd stringer that realistically should never be sniffing court time. You'd think people would be used to this by now.

I think so. I love his game. Reminds me so much of Norm. He's a keeper imo.

He’s flashed a lot. People will point out he hasn’t played against great competition and it’s true. But he has also flashed an ability to hit tough contested shots and great athleticism. He’s also a good man up defender and doesn’t seem to have glaring weaknesses on team D either, but admittedly haven’t seen enough.

Dick has flashed some special things scoring. He is inconsistent as hell right now, but I think it reflects more on his youth and conditioning. Don’t undersell the potential just because we found yet another interesting guard prospect. He’s a mess on defense at times, but he hustles hard and I think will become decent with time. He will always be a little limited on this end, but he’s a guy you can put on a lesser player and if he improves his team D his hustle can make him an overall positive, IMO. His shot is beautiful and he will become an elite shooter with improved stamina, strength and experience.

We have some decisions to make roster wise, but I love our options.

People complain he s putting up great numbers against weak rosters.. but using that analysis, where is Battle, and many others second tier players?

By that logic, they should be feasting... but they aren't.

I think Lawson is a better scorer than Battle...can score in more ways. Battle the better shooter. Even on the 905 Battle wouldn't put up big numbers, just really efficient ones.

Battle's shooting since breaking his nose has suffered, not surprisingly wearing the mask. Only shooting 34.4 from 3 since.

But yeah, Lawson should be applauded for what he has done. As a RFA, hopefully he is here next year and we have them both.

Nose/mask definitely a factor, but Battle is not playing with as many of the team’s best players due to end of season shenanigans so the quality of looks aren’t the same either.

He’s kind of like our new Justin Champaigne. He has enough talent where he may be able to get a place on an NBA bench and contribute here and there when players are injured

Agreed.

I just think Battle is mostly a great C&S guy, whereas Lawson can create more for himself. Both are good to have on the roster.
