Gonzalez might be good. He was projected as a top 5 pick and dropped off because Madrid doesn't play young talent. His shiftiness should come back with some development. I don't think Masai went for him though.

He went for Bogoljub Marković. He's a project we should be taking on. I like him better than Condon if we're considering skill set.

That 40th pick will be interesting.

If we take Hugo Gonzalez with our lottery pick, I will become Nikola Jokic.

Weren't this posted and discussed on the (previous) Draft thread?
Need a separate thread for an old conversation?

Hopefully you'd sign with the Raptors?

I have a feeling we're picking someone totally unexpected with our pick (unless it's #1). And I'm fine with that. This is what Masai is good at. Just make the pick count. This is pretty much our last chance at a superstar because we're hitting the treadmill running next year.

Makes sense. Usually when a prospect climbs the board late they go in that 7-14 range.

Who you got as a wildcard off the board type of pick?

Which player is currently projected to go 14th? That's who we're picking guaranteed

Markovic would be more of a Nikola Jovic type player that would be like a taller Boucher to play PF.

I'm not saying it's 100% impossible that the Raptors draft an international prospect with the FRP, but just keep in mind everyone, that Masai hasn't drafted outside of the NCAA with a FRP since the Bruno mistake in 2014. We're talking about a sample size since then, of 7 actual FRPs, and 2 very early SRPs (pick 31 Mogbo and pick 33 Koloko), all being NCAA prospects.

The likelihood of that just being random is very low. NCAA production is by far the easiest to project forward to the the next level, and the Raptors being a front office that incorporates analytics heavily into their draft process, definitely know this too. The risk factor of whiffing on the pick is far lower when selecting prospects from the NCAA.

In saying this though, if Giannis was hypothetically a 2025 draft prospect instead of 2013, Masai would take him 1st overall. So that's why I'm saying it's not 100% impossible. But if it happens that probably means whoever the pick is, the Raptors are extremely high on their potential. Even Bruno, who ended up being a big miss, Masai was very high on his potential, and decided to gamble with that pick.

Always love to see Masai going back to his scouting roots, he'll have done his due dilligence on these guys.

Gotta love NBAdraft.net. Just throwing darts at a dartboard.

Or maybe, in this wonderful society we've created for ourselves, they are just farming engagement by throwing stuff out there they know is wrong so people will talk about it. I'm not sure if they have the presence to take advantage of it (so maybe not), but it seems like a more realistic scenario than thinking Khaman will go #21.

I was ready to challenge the bolded part. And then I looked up the 2013 draft. Carry on.

Put CMB where Fland is and Fland were Chaz Lanier is and Chaz in the 2nd. Then kick Baye Ndongo to the 2nd, but more likely back for his junior year.

Also flip Queen and Demin and it's a good mock.

wonder if Masai would consider trading down a couple spots in the lottery for a 2nd FRP if the Raps end up in the 3-4 spot?

there are a few teams in the lottery who have another FRP right around the range Gonzales would get drafted
