Don't count Rogers out just yet. When MLSE was controlled by 3 heads, at least there was a counter balance to Rogers. Now that Rogers owns it outright, who knows. Waiting for the dumb powerplay move by Rogers, and Masai seems to always have been his target.

Rogers forced out good leadership with the Jays to replace them with buffoons.

GMing isn't easy in the league. They had a good year but Sabonis/Fox/Murray probably weren't gonna lead to any real contendership, but it's hard to break that up after a feel-good year, but the window from decent to legit is that tight. Even if they dumped Murray for Pascal or OG I doubt that makes any real difference as well.

That being said, adding DeMar and Lavine as the alternative plan was dumb as hell and now they'll be more hard-pressed to dig themselves out of that hole trying to deal all those expensive regular season players as they probably try to rebuild around Devin Carter/Murray and I guess Keon Ellis? Not much there, unfortunately.

That also being said, I think it's a cautionary tale that this front office should be aware of as they navigate the same path. They'll have hard choices to make as they get back to real contendership and we can only hope they make the right ones.

I am also perplexed at what the Kings were doing.

Why would they try a trio of Sabonis, Derozan and Lavine when Vuc, Derozan and Lavine didn't do anything in a weaker eastern conference, and both Derozan and Lavine are getting older?

I don't know if it was Vivek who wanted it but when you decide to bring in the 2 best players from a team whose ceiling for several years was only ever the play-in...what were you expecting?

Derogatory and Lavine aren't a winning combination...this has been established.

What is the definition of insanity again? lol

Lavine is a pretty weird case. He does one of the most difficult things in Basketball which is to be highly efficient as a volume scorer. 64 TS% on 23 ppg is something hardly anyone in the league can do. But, every team he's on ends up losing. He's made the playoffs 1 time in 11 years.

He gives you nothing else so needs to be on the right team. For example, imagine putting him on our old team: FVV/Lavine/OG/Siakam/Poeltl. That's a damn good team and Lavine fits like a glove. I even brought up the idea of potentially signing him before het got the max from Chicago - though injuries are the other worry with that guy.

The Fox trade still looks good for them in my opinion.

Even if it was the owners intervention, I feel like as an established GM you should have some backbone and say no to egregious moves because it's your legacy on the line. Worst case you start job hunting a year earlier and other teams know it wasn't your fault. Either he also believed in those moves or he absolutely bent over to vivek, either one is not good

I don't think they're idiots, they're obviously very successful businessmen.
The problem is when their egos are so inflated, they trick themselves into believing their own BS, that everything they touch turns to gold because they've had great success before.
Just because they're good businessmen and understand how to build a business and staff, doesn't mean they understand the intricacies of building a basketball team. Meddling with on-court personnel moves is the last thing they should be doing, because it's so far out of their field of knowledge.

But rich businessmen don't become rich businessmen by letting others do their job for them - so it's really hard for them to step back and just let their employees run the ship. That's what made Larry T such a great and unique owner for us, and why we love him so much. He's a great businessman, loves the team and sport, but knows when to step back and let the pros work.

As we will see soon enough with our basketball team, bad ownership is the one thing that absolutely guarantees that your team will always suck.
