9. Toronto Raptors
Khaman Maluach | 7-2 big | 19 years old | Duke
With Jakob Poeltl potentially hitting free agency next year, the Raptors could use a long-term answer at center. Many people around the league have connected Duke center Maluach here because of his time at the NBA Academy in Africa and Masai Ujiri’s efforts to promote basketball within the region. It’s a connection that makes a ton of sense now with the Raptors sliding back to No. 9.
Maluach isn’t a monster shot-blocker, but he understands how big he is and is excellent at using his size to cut off angles and contest on the interior. Offensively, there are more questions, largely about his hands and overall feel for the game. He got to basketball a bit late and is still working on how to see the floor around him. He also doesn’t always seem to come down with contested rebounds, as was starkly seen in Duke’s Final Four game against Houston, when he played 20 minutes and had zero rebounds. Still, someone will take the bet on a player who’s 7-2 with long arms and real movement skills.

I was attempting to edit my post on Queen in the last thread to mention he played in a great situation with really good teammates and spacing. He had the 3rd highest bpm on his team. His assist to turnover ratio wasn't great at 0.81 despite the situation. I'm thinking of dropping him out of my top 20.

Where are people at on Yang? Are we dismissing him because of competition level? The skill level looks real, and in the second round it might be worth the risk.

Mild interest. There some good bigs projected to be second rounders. Not sure I'd have him ahead of guys like Kalk/Condon/Raynaud/Broome

Question
1) Why is Bailey better than Bryant?
2) Why is Knueppell better than Jakucionis?

I am still familiarizing with the draft class but at the moment at 9 my top5 options are :
-Maluach
-Jakucionis
-Bryant
-Queen
-Fears
Maluach is arguably the pick that would make the most sense if available at 9 but I am very intrigued by Jak / Bryant .
Obviously Tre Johnson And Knueppel can also be an option if available but I don’t know. We just draft Gradey and Ja’Kobe back to back. Obviously Johnson and Knueppel are their own player but I somewhat feel there would be some level of redundancy.
Also with Masai/Bobby you never know . They will not fears to reach it they feel they are the BPA. If anything it would be good news. Maybe CMB, Essengue, Traore, Fleming, Demin, Wolf will be considered ?

Can anyone give me a reason why Kalkbrenner can't become a drop coverage stretch 5 like Brook Lopez? Both are huge guys who have poor foot speed, aren't switchable, but can protect the rim in drop coverage.

Yaxel Lendeborg has to be an arrow up guy after the combine measurements phase. Versatile combo forward who measured out at 6'8".5 without shoes to go with a 7'4" wingspan a 9'1" standing reach.
Put up 17.7pts 11.4reb 4.2ast 1.7stl and 1.8blk per game, albeit in a weaker conference.

No reason. I’ve been singing his praises since last year.

He's decent albeit a little older than I would like but for a second rounder, we could definitely do worse.
That said, I'd prefer Condon. But between these two guys and Broome, there's no reason we shouldn't come out of the second round with at least a serviceable back up C. Eventually they'd become the starter.
Right now the guys I like and are the most realistic is Jakucionas, Fleming, Coward, Traore and Condon.
I don't think we'll be able to walk away with both Jak and Fleming but if we could get at least one of them, plus Coward and Condon, that's a HUGE draft for us.
