Raps are Shopping RJ

Post#1 » by TorontoBarneys » Sun May 25, 2025 9:16 pm

Same guy who broke the news early that BI was interested in coming to TO. What do you think? Offseason is slow so maybe this warranted a thread, I dunno.

Unsurprising, salary is tight, RJ doesn't do anything the team really needs. No reliable 3, operates in the same spaces as Scottie and BI, doesn't really play defence.

Not sure what they can get in return tbh, he's not exactly a high value contract/player, but it's not surprising at all that ATL/SAC/CHI/SAS are rumoured, 3 out of 4 of those teams all thought DD was a good idea at some point lol. SAS kinda makes sense since they have good scoring options so RJ can be more of a tertiary option/bench spark which is what he would shine at.

It would be an addition by subtraction move. The defense is weak and same with the shooting. Ingram should be able to produce similar numbers on better efficiency. It'll be tough seeing a hometown kid leaving but the Raptors need to capitalize on some good moves.

Well there were reports we discussed RJ going to the Pels in that BI trade but they wanted an expiring contract.

We know we are right near the cap line so maybe it's simply to have a bit more wiggle room.

If you want more shooting or defense on the starting unit, then something would have to give.

A hesitation would be BI is going to miss games as will other guys. Having RJ's offense around for a team that can use it, could be handy.

But no one on the roster should untouchable, so we shall see.

We all knew he would be the most logical piece to move in a trade so not surprising at all.

It is a bit unfortunate because he's from the area and he's done everything right as the most consistent piece and only improved from where he was when he got here. Could potentially be the next Norman Powell type situation if they aren't careful with the returning assets.

There were rumours they offered him in the BI trade already. It’s telling that Pelicans didn’t even want him.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Was he really the source who broke the Raptors’s interest ?

I am sceptical about that !

I would try and trade RJ/IQ together for an upgrade at the PG spot....Try and get Ball or Trae even....Or some other legit all star level PG....Worth a shot.....Would also ask for a big back in the deal to help the roster even out....

First off it's an A.I. bot on Twitter, second it was Mark Stein and Jake Fischer who broke the story that the Raptors were interested in Brandon Ingram.

We're really fortunate Masai delivered us the title with that out of no where Kawhi trade.

Complete bull that this **** is getting leaked by league sources for us and it's all quiet for LA/DAL.

Anyways, welcome to Toronto Wemby!

So funny how this is an AI bot but all the people who dislike RJ’s game couldn’t wait to run to this thread to be like of course they’re gonna trade him LOL

Too early. I think it would.be a bad move to trade him.......unless of course it was for an obvious upgrade.

I'd like to see how RJ fits with these guys next season. I believe in the guy. He's a worker.

Exactly how I feel. No one is untouchable and if it’s for an upgrade I am all for trading him, but I wouldn’t just trade him to trade him this early. At least give him a chance to play with a Raptors team that’s actually going to be trying to win first. If it doesn’t work out or he doesn’t fit you can always look into trading him at the deadline or something

we are in talent acquisition or talent redistribution mode. we are not in talent shedding mode. my guess is any deal will have talent coming back, unlike what we gave the pels.

It makes sense. He's just a worse version of BI (albeit healthier). It doesn't make sense to have both of them in the lineup for the amount of money they're making.
