Someone want to tell me why if he's being accused of rape that this is not being handled criminally? Is this a cash grab or something with real substance behind it?

Sounds like it could be a cash grab but also seems like it could be some what true....Considering Zion been in a few questionable relationships with a certain type of girl.....It may also be his baby mamma that is the one making these claims so maybe she just wants money and doesn't want to see him locked up for a long time because they have a kid together.....Zion seems like a guy that has issues off the court....So you can't really rule it out....Either way Pelicans are cooked because i doubt they want to keep Zion around with all the bad PR this is getting and now his trade value is in the gutter....I doubt any teams want to trade for him either...

Recent reports are wrong. Pelicans do in fact have one untouchable player on the trade market.

Might not be enough evidence for a criminal investigation, but IIRC civil cases are much easier to prove fault. OJ is a great example, he was not convicted of the murders, but in civil court he was found guilty and had to pay the families due to a lower bar of "proof".

The difference is the standard of proof being "beyond a reasonable doubt" in a criminal case vs. "balance of probabilities" in a civil case.

We all know how this thread is going to go. I won't comment on the ifs, ands or buts.

So, to try and not-so-subtly divert attention from it...would we have gotten BI cheaper in the offseason now that this has come out? Not that the price we paid was high, but, if I'm a GM, the price for other pieces from NO just dropped by 10% at least.

For the franchise, this news coming out could not be coming at a worse time - imo they were primed to move Zion along with some of those MIL picks as a facilitator in a MIL Giannis trade this offseason - fast tracking their rebuild in the process. Now...it's just another major negative to any Zion deal.

This is probably insensitive but it sounds like to me Zion is into hard sex and the woman never enjoyed it but put up with it because...well Zion is rich af. And now for one reason or another she has decided that she has had enough and wants to get something out of it.

I mean if he was doing this to her against her will lock him up and throw away the key. But it just doesnt seem that way. A 5 year relationship where he held her hostage? Come on now.

Not to mention the ubiquitous out-of-court settlement option, that more often than not happen in cases involving public persons. If there's even a slight grey area (even if not "guilty" in a legal sense)...it often ends up with a payout/settlement of some sort just to make it go away, in order to avoid damaging the defendant's public image/future earnings. Clearly, we can't/shouldn't comment on what did or didn't happen...but the legal system definitely has a door open that can be used for good and justice, but also used for...alternative reasons.

I've had it happen to me (not anywhere near this specific context), but even in my lawsuit, I definitely saw how the legal system can be used and abused to get a payout, even for something that was CLEARLY frivolous and for which any sane person would say I/we had no fault in the matter. It just becomes a question of how much do you want to pay lawyers to fight the issue, and is it worth your time and money and public view into your life...? What's that worth to a person? $5,000 was the price my condo corp ended up having to payout just to make it go away, because the lawyer fees alone to fight it would've been multiples of that. So for a couple hours of paperwork, the guy walked away with $5k. Then the guy, after getting paid out by the corp, went and sued my personally because he figured he could get something out of me too, esp after the initial lawsuit was settled. It almost amounts to extortion in some cases. Which....I'm not saying this is the case here. Just...there IS that clear possibility, and it's VERY easy to exploit.

Watch this turn into a Cosby situation. Zion shoulda stayed away from the IG models and Hot Cheetos.

Pelicans needed Bruce’s big expiring to remain under the tax for next year.

For trade to go through this summer in a sign and trade they’d have to take back salary and would be $15m or so over tax

Have you never heard of abusive relationships? People can stay a lot longer than just 5 years with someone who physically or psychologically hurts them, it happens all the time and it’s no less awful just because they say they love them afterward.

The rough sex stuff is too funny - the jian ghomeshi radio host case from years back brought a lot of uncomfortable conversations into the limelight. Fair to say it might be a thing of the past because people will have to protect themselves. If someone you meet likes that 69 shades of gray ****, better hire a lawyer to write up some kind of agreement before engaging. When you take implied consent away from a natural act, you overcomplicate things

Can we offer Zion for Ochai and Mogbo and a salary to make it work
