How does a lottery team , managed by a self proclaimed cap guru not have room to maneuver under the cap ?

Cause apparently you need to use all of your cap space 100% of the time, to be ready for all those elusive trades.

*handwaving* Free agents don't want to come here anyway (which is definitely the only practial application of cap space)

I don’t get it either. Players line up to come here. I’m sure Brook Lopez would’ve chosen to come play in Canada over his hometown in California.

The IQ contract may have been an overpay, but it won't matter in the grand scheme of things. That's what I was told anyway. It definitely won't necessitate another move like the Thad Young trade to get out of the tax at the cost of downgrading a first round pick into a second round pick. Right?

Many ways for the Raps to build a great team. Free Agency is not one of them.

Isn’t that the crux of the problem . We’re capped team who were a lottery team in the weaker conference. I dunno don’t see a big difference between sac and tor, other than sac being a better team

IQ is the 53rd highest player in the league.
The NBA has changed. It’s not 1995 anymore. Luke Kornet is getting 41 million dollars over 4 years.
IQ’s salary stays fixed so he will take up a smaller percentage of our cap each year.

This offseason’s free agency class is a historically bad one. Saving space for it would actually have deserved condemnation.

Well I think you're forgetting that we were a lottery team because we had one of the most injured teams in the league which began at the start of last season, and we purposely also tried to tank by resting guys... We've also added Ingram, who while injury prone, arguably would have been the best FA in this class had we not traded/signed him.

Only way to get better is trade and drafting. No one wants to come here.
We'll build IQ and Ingram's value. Then we can sell in the next 2 years. RJ had a value boost and he's expiring. We can probably sell high this offseason.
RJ could bring back a young big and a pick.
Poeltl / (big) / Chomche
Barnes / CMB
Ingram / Walter
Agbaji / Dick
Quickely / Shead / Martin
Ingram + Shead + future picks could bring back a star player. We'd also have IQ + Dick/Walter for another star.
We have the pieces to seek out those trades now which is a good sign. It should get better as time goes on.

Because bro we can sign free agents because apparently everyone in the world hates Canada and we miss out on the high in demand guys like *checks notes* Luka Garza and Kevin Looney.
I really hope the next President gets rid of this sad sack woe is me mentality that no one wants to play in Toronto.

it's not a mystery if this was a legit question - they decided to use the money on ingram.
but i don't think getting answers was the objective of this thread.
