Grange: Bobby wants President’s Job // update pg. 15

Post#1 » by WuTang_OG » Tue Jul 1, 2025 1:03 pm

Posting this because i hope they elevate him. If they bring someone else in chances are both sides dont see a fit. Thats usually how it goes.

There is a feeling within the Raptors organization that Webster wants the president’s job now that it’s available. Him being included in the interview process is not a courtesy, but something Webster wants.

He’s been comfortably in his role as second-in-command in the Raptors front office, but after 13 years, there is a sense that he’s ready for a challenge and moving to the president’s role is a natural progression.

He’s thought of highly within MLSE and will get serious consideration, per sources, even if the executive search is ongoing.

An example of how Ujiri and Webster differed: it was Ujiri who was resistant to signing Pascal Siakam to an extension in the season prior to him being traded to the Indiana Pacers in January of 2024. Ujiri didn’t want the risk of a long-term deal on his books for a player who he was no longer sure was a fit with Scottie Barnes’ timeline. An injury to Siakam after he signed, or even just a downturn in performance, would have left the Raptors in a difficult situation.

But not signing him also meant that they had less control over where Siakam could be traded as he headed into the final year of his contract, likely less leverage for extracting a top price.

He should get it. Only chance they have to retain the staff they have that has done so well drafting.

How did Scottie ever get above Pascal on our depth chart? What did he ever do or prove?

Give it to him. As bad as we've been the past 3 years, we need continuity. He understands the uniqueness of the market.

Masai didn’t want to extend Pascal but Bobby did?

I always knew Masai was the problem.

The whole press conference where Masai inferred that Pascal was playing selfishly was so weird.

Rather bobby than elton brand or marc eversley. Elevating bobby would also mean we keep dan tolzman and the scouting staff intact

Might make sense to get a fresh person as the GM

It is the best option. The odds of a President found on the open market that would undermine all that they've built are pretty high. Bobby is far from perfect but is a better option than some of the higher profile "names" that might be out there.

We are capped out and have not seen our big acquisition play yet. A new President isn't suddenly going to make other teams want RJ or IQ (unless he happens to be best friends with Dumars). The new guy, if external, would be inheriting a roster that is pretty much ironclad at this point, and so is everyone under him in the FO with their new, fresh contracts. Not optimal and probably not a scenario that a guy with other options would take.

I mean, Masai was right in that Siakam did not fit the timeline the Raps were now working with. It was the right move not to extend. Should have traded him sooner though.

Part of me always believed that after the Raptors won a chip, Masai started feeling himself a little too much.

I will always respect what Masai did for the culture and the team, but I think after the success of the bench mob, and winning a championship, Masai continued to rely on "his feelings" more when making decisions, over the analytics and the business of what was best for the team.

Everything seemed a little off with his press conferences after the championship. If his decision to not extend Pascal was more personal, then he should have been fired even sooner.

I always knew it was time for change

Not extending Pascal was not the right move. You extend him then trade him.

Sounds like they’re trying to slander Masai on his way out. You would think with his African ties he had a more personal relationship with siakam. That being said, the way siakam was being forced out by the organization was kind of weird

William Lou basically confirmed that whatever went on between Masai and Pascal was personal and that Bobby had nothing to do with it. Lou said that he was actually acting as a go-between in SL with Pascal's agents and Masai, because Masai just cut them off entirely. Masai owned it after Pascal was traded.

I don't like the proposed trades we were looking at under Bobby, though. I think the Celtics laughing at his offer is going to be James Dolan turning down Lowry for Shumpert and a 1st.

Also i dont think people realize bobby has been a GM since 2017. Same year as chad buchanan. Matt llyod who grange listed just became a GM last year for Minny. Bobby has been in the chair for 8 years and learned under Masai and understands the market as miami pointed out. Thats important.

Putting a player agent would be the dumbest thing or someone at the same level as him is just as stupid. Bobby is gonna walk.

He’s the best guy for the job just promote him and dan
