Rosters are set. Now where do we rank?

Post#1 » by Thaddy » Wed Jul 2, 2025 5:12 am

Cleveland
New York
Orlando

Atlanta
Boston
Toronto

Milwaukee
Philadelphia
Indiana

Detroit
Miami
Chicago

Washington
Brooklyn
Charlotte

I see it as something like this. We have a good chance in an injured EC. Barnes, IQ, and Ingram are all on bigger contracts and will need to take a predicted step forward. I think Barnes showed he's a defensive monster and he can anchor a defense. Then I think IQ shows he's a true PG and Ingram shows he's a true first option.

The X Factor here is our bench and RJ. If either of these two show up as better players we will have extraordinary depth to go into the first round fresh.

We're on the right path with this group.

If we don’t make any trades from here on out?

I see us in the play in territory. Above .500 if Ingram stays healthy. Under .500 if Ingram isn’t able to play 60+ games.

High end outcome - 45 wins.
Expected outcome - 43 wins.
Disappointing outcome - 38 wins.

I don’t see us winning our play in games. Back to F5 on tankathon for the rest of spring.

Det too low, Indy/Bos too high, raptors should be about 7th or 8th and win a playoff spot thru the play-in.

Not too high on Boston.. hell if they don't keep Horford it might get ugly..same with the Bucks if GA misses any time whatsoever.

76ers could be a top 3 team but who has faith in PG and Embiida health?

Before anyone complains, imagine being a Kings fan. That team just makes no sense.

We might be top 6 by default next year with the Pacers, Bucks and Celtics likely not a factor.

Cleveland
New York
Orlando
Detroit
Atlanta
Toronto

Philadelphia and Miami are 2 others that could possibly be better than us but who knows if PG will look at least like Clippers PG and if Embiid can play. Miami I don't count out because of coaching and I like Ware and Kasparas for them.

I see Knicks, Cavs and Magic ahead of the rest. So absolute best case scenario top 4 finish and 50ish wins.

Indy almost certainly drops. I have little faith Boston is competitive this year. Milwaukee will likely drop as well. He's better than Brook but he had a really good year for them last year and without Lillard they should be worse than last year. Giannis will always make them a threat tho. Who knows with Philly, but PG is gonna be 35, Embiid is always injury prone and they are not deep.

Atlanta made some moves and will have Johnson back, but an awful lot depends on KP being healthy. Detroit was good but with Malik Beasley out there are quite a few changes too role players, will see if they can recreate and/or improve on last year.

It's hard to say what will happen to Detroit. They lost THJ and Beasley. Beasley had an insane year from 3 that's gonna be tough to replicate, even from Robinson (who's also gonna be worse defensively). Between the 2 of them they accounted for almost 50% of Detroits made 3s last year. Their replacements in Levert and Robinson will be a downgrade. Schroder only played a third of the season but he was a big part of their push at the end of the year (17-11 with him).

They'll have Jaden Ivey healthy, but its not implausible they take a step back.

Sure, but Beasley is "only" under investigation, just like Rozier was (not guilty). If he's proven not guilty, he will likely come back. And if not, there are still rumors Monk could be headed to Detroit.

I still think Detroit will be a 48W team. Good times to be a Piston fan for sure.

Anywhere from 4-10 is possible, I would say 6-8 is the most likely outcome.

I always circle these tanking teams that just made the playoffs for the first time as a candidate to backslide. Detroit will probably be good, but teams like this fall apart quickly.

Toronto will be in tough to get into the top 6, for sure. Loads of question marks. They do have the pieces to be just as good as a lot of these top 6 teams, though. I don't know if there's a single team outside of the Cavs that I would guarantee for the top 4 right now.

Around 7th to 9th … the draft outcome was not as needle moving as hoped/needed this off season…. And I’m not expecting needle-moving trades

Cleveland and New York are the only teams that are probably definitively better and Cleveland will likely shed some salary to get under the 2nd apron.
They are a contender to grab the 3rd seed along with a few other teams.

Beasley also has other circumstances that don't look good like his Dentist garnishing wages and being sued by his previous agency. He is also not under contract, so how does Detroit sign him given the other moves they made?

But yeah they are still a young team with lots of rooms for growth

If our core guys are able to play 65-70 games, I think we can be in the 45 win range.

I will say 7th/8th right now, but I think top 6 is definitely a possibility.
