Every year prior to the season there's multiple legit #1's people are hyped about until reality smacks many of the prospects in the face. Ace was supposed to be can't miss last year around this time and after a rocky college season he went 5th in an average-ish draft.
That stupid article that I hated from the day it came out where Givony said 4 guys can challenge Flagg for #1, completely ruined the discourse around the 2025 draft class for the entire season, and now it's already looking like it's going to ruin 2026 draft discourse.
No one is going to take it seriously how good Peterson, Boozer and Dybantsa are because of how recent Givony's stupid ESPN article was, being published during the draft cycle that just ended and still relatively fresh of mind.
All those guys look good, but usually 4-5 guys are hyped prior to the season and you're lucky if one guy emerges as a legit #1 in the tier of a AD, Zion or potentially Flagg. Excelling at the college level as a freshman is actually quite hard, even for the most talented HSers.
I agree in general with what you're saying about draft classes getting overhyped in the preseason.
I'm just saying for this upcoming draft in particular, it's not the case, but it's going to be borderline impossible for people to buy into that being true because of how unbelievably stupid (and still recent) that Givony/ESPN article was trying to hype up some non-existent "Big 5 in 2025". I hated it from the day it was published and never bought into that hype because there was nothing concrete to support it.
Boozer, Dybantsa and Peterson are extremely legit though. If the 2025 and 2026 draft classes were combined, the top 4 would be Boozer/Dybantsa/Flagg/Peterson, and I'm not sure what order they would go in.
