Do you think he makes the team? Where does he fit on the depth chart?

Great signing for camp, he was an interesting prospect in his draft year.

Definitely a real threat to take a two-way spot from Martin or Hepburn

I can’t imagine them cutting Martin for Roddy right after drafting him 39. He’s have to look horrific in camp.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Yah you’re right on that, I feel like its really just Hepburn’s spot that’s up for grabs unless something wild happens in camp

Seems like either Lawson or Castleton will be cut to make room for Roddy on the training camp roster, which isn't surprising because both of them are borderline locks to be cut by the end of training camp anyway to duck the roster under the 1st apron.

No 2-way for Roddy imo

This is a 905 signing via exhibit 10

Raptors will likely give him a 10 day or two later in the year to boost his income…as will likely happen with a few 905 players.

Seems inevitable a trade is coming to cut salary somewhere

David Roddy was a great do-everything type at Colorado State and then I thought the Grizzlies drafted a bit higher than I thought he would go and we couldn't get him, btu I really liked the idea of him on Toronto. Last year, he bounced around from the Hawks to 76ers to the Rockets. It isn't a great sign and kind of indicates he is lacking something. The 30% from three is bad because he is pretty low volume (only 36% from corner threes). That said, he is a THT type of player who can get to the rim well but the finishing is not great.

The most important factor I think its his defense. I am just not sure someone that big can guard players his size. Putting him on Cs and PFs he is undersized but he can really compete but gives up height. On the perimeter he is open to blow-bys. Not sure he gets more than a camp invite, but he might be better than Lawson or Castleton so you never know. He does have more than 2800 mins playing in the NBA so there is some sample.

Roddy is a scrub whereas Martin can be a legit NBA player.

I see some role player potential with Roddy and he is a redraft type right now. He had a weird year last year with all the trades, but he has NBA talent to stick: The handle is decent, and he is a really strong player that can screen and defend in the paint. Being a very mobile 250 lbs is pretty special.

Toronto seems to be assembling a roster of big bodied guys who are strong and can make some plays in transition and be play initiators on offense. The fit is obvious with Roddy especially after drafting CMB and resigning Poeltl. We want players who can read the floor and be a hub on offense while being tough and with good hands for deflections on defense.

Martin is a fire hydrant type defensive stopper, but much more of a guard who matches better with 1s and 2s. If he can show some playmaking and his shooting is real, he can stick. I mean Martin only got a standard two-way deal so he is far from a lock. Being a 6'2ish SG is an upfill battle, but I love his game and he is such a high character guy.

Yeah I’m hopeful for a trade as well. While I’m forever about Canadian players and I enjoyed AJ Lawson last year, I still think he’s more a 905 player unless we free up roster space. I think Colin Castleton was Mamu lite and a person they brought in to test out bringing in someone like Mamu.

Roddy seems to me like a Guerschon Yabusele or if we go back further a Corliss Williamson or a Chuck Hayes. Definitely an asset to practice against/for CMB to learn from. He also has a 6’ 11” wingspan so that could be interesting too.

Do you think we make a trade to aggregate players and if so for who?

Which players do you think are likely to return to the 905? Do you think Roddy sticks there like Justise Winslow did?

Seeing Roddy bully Boucher was one thing, but seeing him bully Zion was quite another!

He has that football player build. He should have been a fullback with his strength and agility. Toronto has a few of these football body types lately (CMB, Roddy, Martin). Sign me up for these dogs.
