Is this guy reputable or this just a random wish list being circulated as rumors.
FWIW, it would be a nice thing for the inaugural season to help Masai set the vision.

I called this a while ago. You take on a role with your biggest fan - Larry T (the owner) and with your protege in Teresa Resch. Teresa was the one in charge of making the gym in the basement of a Florida hotel. Tampa I believe. Masai could be waiting for an expansion team opportunity with a strong league mandated blessing. Staying in Toronto to wait that out makes a ton of sense. People should look at the increase in the value of the Raptors since 2013 when Masai took over. 405 million to 4.4 billion... Working for a nascent team like the Tempo with the fanfare of the opening season could be a major promotional contribution. I gather Masai avoided a mobility competition clause in his MLSE contract. Rogers would for one year be paying to have Masai's recognition and reputation brought to bear on the Tempo. Makes sense to me. Rogers looks good blessing the soft landing including paying the last year on the Masai deal. A minor bonus for increasing equity of shareholders to the nth degree.

Better yet, Masai collects his final year from Rogers, while offering his help to build up the Tempo, a team Rogers is not involved with, all on Rogers dime

Wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a minority owner considering rumour is he got a $60M pay out after being let go

Thats exactly as how I see it. Masai is being paid a lot to chill out for a full year so collect those checks while helping Larry with Tempo and then transition into whatever full time role he has planned next year.

Makes sense. Masai has roots in Toronto professionally and personally with his family. I’d love to see him involved with the Tempo. He and Teresa will be a powerhouse team.

Wouldn't this be like a massive pay cut to take any job with the Tempo?

Only if he signed with another team would MLSE have to pay the difference
But this is a seperate league outside of the NBA, it has nothing to do with his exit deal

Anything that keeps Masai connected to Toronto basketball is a positive.

Larry T bought in at $50M for the Tempo franchise in 2023 and average WNBA franchise value is $270M (Valkyries $500M as a new expansion completing its first season, Liberty $420M fresh off a title, Fevers $335M fresh off drafting Clark).
If the Tempo win a title within their first five years Larry T & Masai can sell it to a FOMO Ed Rogers for $2B
I won't pay Masai $15M a year as POBO because he's not worth it!
Here's a $200M cheque for your 10% Tempo ownership piece, Masai.

I thought Larry payed 115 million US for the Tempo franchise

You're right, Larry initially paid $50M for the franchise fee and the additional costs when finalized the investment totaled $115M. Regardless, all WNBA franchise values increased by an average of 180% in 2024 so the Tempo's current value is around $322M USD.
No wonder the WNBA is going on a pay us our money campaign right now

If I was Larry I would offer a huge role to Masai to be the main leader of Kilmer .
Like being the Keith Pelley of MLSE but for Kilmer.
Masai could look for opportunities tonight invest into others franchise . Having a huge role for Tempo while still having Teresa as president .
And yeah maybe Masai could be a shareholder of Kilmer . Larry is not getting any younger .
I have no idea how accurate it is but this could be an under rated major move for Masai.
Especially if WNBA value franchise go up and if Kilmer has other plans to invest to other teams
In my dreams alternate scenario maybe Kilmer with Masai at the helm could maybe try to bring an nba expansion team to MTL (Kilmer to partner with Bell and Molson family (current Montreal Canadian ownership) and maybe even Thomson (the richest person in canada)
And maybe Kilmer could put MLSE at their place.
I know , I know . Not happening

It’s still a bit unclear to me if Masai truly got 60M as severance package or 60M over the course of his full current contract . 60M would kind of double his 15M annual salary as often as speculated. If it’s indeed around 15M annual salary + a portion of the team growth value and its represent almost 120M total compensation for 4 years then I understand a bit more Ed Rogers for wanting something a bit cheaper even if I don’t like how the firing was done. And I definitely can’t stand Keith Pelley.

Some kind of share swap...?
He deserves a ton of credit for enhancing the Raptors reputation and making shareholders richer. 60 mil. would soften the blow in the biggest of ways.

10000%.
In a salary cap environment, areas like management, infrastructure, scouting etc. is where we can really differentiate ourselves, especially for a city like Toronto with a fan base like the Raptors... that's NOT the area to try and "save a few bucks". F#king hate Ed.
