Team Canada in the 2025 Americup

Post#1 » by Hair Canada » Fri Aug 22, 2025 10:32 pm

Unlike last time around, this time we sent a very decent team, with Kabengele, Miller, and George.

Some first impressions from the first half against Venezuela (Canada leads by 15):

Love Kabengele's mindset. He come to play on both end of the court. A real force who should have a guaranteed spot in the next big cycle (WC and Olympics)

George a really nice addition to the team. Still raw and sometimes over-zelous with taking tough shots, but plays with confidence, defends well, and has great size. If he shoots well, he's a real keeper.

Miller a bit more quiet, but I also liked what he's doing. Doesn't force plays on offense and shares the ball, and on defense he's much improved, moving his feet well, putting a body, and not losing focus.

Big Miller fan over here. He’s looked good, love his athleticism and quickness.

The boys are firing them shots, but I guess if they are going in it’s ‘ok’. But would love a more controlled offence, hopefully our guys don’t only rely on our talent to win games.

Courtside 1891. DAZN has all the cup games.
No game today but tomorrow we play Panama.
USA plays Bahamas which is interesting today though.

Also Puerto Rico looked good last night. Alvarado is such a fun PG to watch

I think that Canada Panama game is tonight at 11:10. though maybe there is a time difference of some kind not being accounted for on the website.

When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Crazy brawl at the end of a OT game between Argentina and DR… benches were cleared, a Dominican guy dropped an Argentinian at the end… wild…

Ye. the brawl was pretty wild. David Jones (two-way with the spurs), who the DR's best player and scored the winning basket against Argentina, really lost it (rumors that racial slurs were involved). Wonder how many games of suspension he'll get. Could cost the DR a real chance to do something in this tournament.

Also yesterday, the US with a surprising loss to Uruguay (after they needed OT to beat the Bahamas).

Canada playing today (23:10ET) against a good Puerto Rico teamfor first place in Group B. Would mean a more convenient rival in the QF.

Any opinions on David Muenkat as the starting SG?

That one has shocked me as I didnt even have him making the team (Campbell looked more intriguing) let alone starting.
Espcially with Mike and Darling there.
Muenkat's pro resume seems next to nothing compared to those two. But I admit, I knew next to nothing about him coming into this.

Is this to get a point of attack definsive specialist out there? keep George in more of a wing position and not forced to take on a speedy guard?
Maybe the next coming of Aaron Best with a little more size? (6'6).

I can't really complain so far, but Canada hasn't really been tested yet. We will see with PR tonight....

Alvarado is cooking Canada. Meanwhile Canada doesn't seem to be able to generate any good looks. Every shot opportunity is labourious.

His dad also played for the National Team back in the day. Kind of cool. Just like RJ and Rowan, and Shawn Swords and the Swords girls, we're starting to get some fun generational basketball legacies.

Bracket stage reached!
In the quarter finals you have on one side

Canada VS Colombia
Puerto Rico VS Argentina

Other side of the bracket we have

USA VS Uruguay
Dominican Republic VS Brazil

Prediction
At this juncture I could see Canada & Puerto Rico coming out of the first round on one side of the bracket. With Canada over powering them (or Argentina tbh) in the semis

As much as it would be great to see uruguay beat USA again I don’t see them letting this game slide. Most likely we will see a US vs DR game in the semis with the Americans grabbing the win.
Instincts tell me Canada will mollywop the US in the final but it’s more likely going to be a close Canadian win imo.

Why aren't any of our NBA guys playing, since it's summer?
