Nothing too revealing.

Everyone's healthy and they're in evaluation mode.

My 4 take aways from this.

RJ is a goner.
They 100% know that Scottie doesn’t have the ability to be a #1.
A big trade will happen this season.
A lot of pressure on Shead and Gradey to provide real nba positive minutes.

He knows how important it is, not to have overpays- because you can’t fit them with max contracts it takes to win with.

I hope to see at some point this knowledge put in practice.

If there was a viable market for RJ, he’d already be gone. They can’t get a return for him anywhere near the value they try to sell to the fanbase - so unless they pivot and move someone they’re more high on, but has trade value, they’ll be holding on to him, and rolling with this roster where it’s likely that 2-3 players we tanked for, are waiting for a chance to play behind high paid vets scraping to make 9th.

And imo re Scotty it’s not ability it’s maturity and mentality to maximize that ability not just entertain yourself on Insta. My thing is Barnes has value - but if because we had a close look, we know he’s more or less likely to reach that potential - if they feel it’s less - then move him for the inflated value of his potential - do it. And don’t wait.

A guy who can’t shoot, is not an efficient scorer, is not a 1st option and in year 5, still has to mature with his focus - how long is that a max guy before the perceived value starts to go the other way. People are not blind, it’s already started. And having CMB behind him means there will be people seeing the beauty of the potential of CMB - coming up behind him.

I say that hoping that we come out and compete this year - and have it work and have all my concerns erased. I don’t think this is a bad team, talent wise I think it’s good, I think not well constructed in the amount wings versus bigs and no real legit proven lead guard ( although with IQ and Jamal and even Martin - they have someone to look at.

They really should have waited on that IQ deal. I don’t think his name even came up today.

I read it as they would prefer to trade RJ, but Scottie is in the show me year here in Toronto. Max money for leadership and defense better turn into wins.

They've been trying to trade RJ for a while. And they had the 9th pick attached to it, which they don't have now. This is because they wanted upgrades.

There are RJ options, but they'll be for getting futures attached to junk like FVVs contract now that he's out for the season. We'll see if they actually do these types of trades now, but I'll only believe it when I see it.

Masai was trying to trade the pick, not Bobby. RJ is on the block because they can't afford extend him, but I do think that it's likely way more wide open now that Masai gone. There's basically a chunk of salary that has to be moved.

100% agree with all of your points.

Bobby did not deny the RJ trade rumours and highlighted his lack of efficiency and lack of ability on the defensive end. Those are 2 things that will be difficult to change. I think he's gone before the end of the year.

Masai was a little too high on Scotties overall game. We can all agree his defense, passing and IQ is dominant but he does lack in scoring. That is where playing with Brandon should help the most.

And that CMB is a loooong-term project.

My boy held his own during his first press conference as the head honcho.

No nonsense. No beating around the bush. Straight to business.

On offence atleast. Which tells me that his shooting hasn’t made any significant progress this summer, which isn’t too surprising.

I still think CMB will surprise with his scoring this year. He isn’t Mogbo.

The fact that he said we shouldn’t put pressure on Scottie to score tells me all I need to know on how they feel about him.

I’m glad Bobby acknowledged that.

Yeah, he just mentioned how Masai is still rooting for us and still gives Bobby advice and support.

Yes.

Bobby said he can call Masai at any time and Masai was supportive throughout the hiring process.

Bobby also said they will miss the motivational speeches that Masai would give the team from time to time.

Trading RJ to trim salary should be malpractice. RJs salary isn't the reason why we are slightly over the tax, trading RJ for anything other than an upgrade is just dumb salary management & roster construction. His money needs to be allocated somewhere, and it shouldn't be internally because he doesn't need to be paid for another 2yrs
