How did we acquire him? I don't seem to remember giving up that much, yet I'm looking at his career stats, and we acquire him in the middle of his sophomore when he appears to be doing OK. 10-6 in 25 MPG, after a fairly solid rookie season statistically. This was after being taken sixth overall.

I assume we had to give up something of good value, but anyone remember what it was?

Sharone Wright was acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers at the trade
deadline in exchange for Tony Massenburg, Ed Pickney, and what has turned
out to be the Raptors 2nd Round Pick (32nd Overall) in this year's draft.
Wright, a 23 year-old second-year man, only made it into a limited number of
games as a Raptor, before a back injury sidelined him and forced him to miss
the final 15 games of the season.

76ers traded Sharone Wright to Raptors for Ed Pinckney, Tony Massenburg, and the right to swap first round picks in 1996 or 1997.

Yep...back injury if i remember correctly. But he seemed like he had potential. Nice back to the basket game.

This could've be a mega steal considering Pinckney and Massenburg were veteran role players, at best. The Sixers were a go-nowhere team that year, finishing behind us in the standings too, so it was pretty odd that they, of all teams, were giving us their sixth pick player in his sophmore year. Lucky for Philly, Sharone's injuries prevented him from doing anything too amazing.

Isaiah made some really good moves for us as our GM. That Willie Anderson for Doug Christie trade was another tremendous steal, come to think of it. It's a shame Thomas' insanity got the best of him.

isiah has always been a good judge of talent and sees potential in some that others don't...but he doesn't understand that you can get all the talent you want, but it HAS to mesh together.

Who did we get for Chauncey again? Was it gary trent?

Sharone was actually playing over in Europe recently. Not sure how well he was doing, but I do believe he caught on with a team.

Denver's First Round Pick (5th), Johnathon Bender ... who became Antonio Davis.

Thanks... seems like an odd deal for the Sixers. Despite us being brutal, the Sixers were actually worse in 1996 and 1997. They ended up getting a second rounder in 1996 who ended up being one of the worst players in Montreal Expos history. I hate you Ryan Minor.

I have a Sharone Wright autographed basketball.

he had a nice back to the basket game and could turn into the paint and get off a good look. It would usually rattle the rim but never fall. But you knew that once he sorted that out he would sooner or later be able to make the shot consistently.

Too bad the back injury ended all of that.

Sharone and Camby would have made a sick young front court. Sharone had one of the better low post games, and a nice fram 6'11- 260 pounds.

Maybe its just because of habit, but I swear for a second, I thought someone had created a thread to suggest the Raps pick up Wright.

if i remember right, wright had already had his car crash when he was traded. so its not as awkward a deal as it seems.

If I remember correctly, we traded Ed Pinkney.

The trade was a good risk for a rebuilding team but ultimately he was done in by his bad back, which was a big reason why the Sixers were willing to let him go for so little.

But other than being an above aveage low post scorer, the rest of his skills weren't great. Middling rebounder, bad defender, didn't keep in shape. Even if healthy, he probably had an Othella Harrington type career ahead of him.
