"They have some good guards, but they need a floor general," Alston said before the game. "Right now they have score-first guards - Crawford, Robinson, Marbury. It's unfortunate there's nobody to give (Randolph, Curry) the ball.

NY Post

anyone find it funny that he said that... when the same thing could be said of his game
because i never remember him as a floor leader or pass first pg when he was with the Toronto Raptors =/

Who was he honestly going to pass to during his tenure here? Jelani McCoy? Voshon Lenard? Rod Strickland? Damone Brown? Derrick Dial?

Adelman thought Alston was more of a first-pass PG than either Mike James or Steve Francis. I don't think he is that bad, save for the occasion bad shot selection.

I always found it (Please Use More Appropriate Word) that, we as a team had him for a year, traded him to another team (Orlando, I believe), cuz he wasn't living up to expecations. Gains experience and confidence and we take him back and give him a fat contract. Then ship him off cuz he wasn't what we expected.

Terrible moves.

He played exactly 1 month with a 'mailing it in' Vince. And the fact that an aging, fading, slowing, Jalen Rose was counted on to score about 18 ppg with that team kinda proves his point, doesn't it?

rafer should worry about keeping his shooting percentage above .400 rather than criticising the knicks lack of a floor general.

I never noticed Rafer to take more bad shots than any other PG in the league. The problem was he cared too much and tried too hard, something that he didn't have in common with Carter and Rose and it was a clash of personalities. In Sam's 1st season he took a wild west approach as a rookie coach and bullied Rafer to show who was in authority and unfortunately for Rafer he was the easiest target. He couldn't bully veterans like Vince and Jalen or chose not to. So with every mistake Rafer made Sam magnified it because I guess he was expecting him to be something he was not. He thought Rafer could take the tough love but he couldn't and had meltdowns. Notice how Rafer never had problems with any other NBA coach he's played for.

It was a bad combination of a rookie coach and a player in his 1st role as a starting PG and both were not emotionally able to handle it. If Rafer played for Sam now I doubt there would be any problems because they have both matured.

I still remember all the times where he would stop and shoot a 3 on a fast break instead of going for the easy layup...

Is it just me or Raptor fans turn on everybody that leaves the organization? Rafer was a good PG, but too emotional.

He came in a bad timing though. Everyone wanted out from the club, so he took things in his own hands.
