I like the Raps of 99-01 because they were successful and interesting to watch but the contemporary Raptors are just fine. I enjoy watching our offense with the exception of Bargnani and Dixon.
IMO, we're really only two players away from being a legitimate contender to exit the East, even if the acquisition of those players robs us of our present depth.
The Raptors play at a reasonable pace, they run what is commonly a fluid and very pass-happy offense, we have great shooters... it's loads of fun. I just wish we had a little bit of American ball in us, just one or two players who were really iconic examples of NBA basketball. You know, a power big man or a really deadly slasher with good range.
Toronto lacks a superstar, perhaps the most iconic figure in American basketball, and that holds us back... though that's sort of definitively stated in the idea of a superstar, I guess. We haven't been lucky enough to have drafted one (or have passed up the opportunity for one reason or another in the past) and haven't had competent management until Colangelo's arrival and he's got a slower plan, so that's cool.
But Euro-style ball is generally reasonably appealing; I like watching the FIBA and Euroleague games. They can be pretty low-scoring but to be honest, I'm from Canada... I watch hockey. Hockey games occasionally end 1-0. European fans look at basketball after playing football and go "my God, the scoring!" and I do much the same. I don't like to see that in the NBA but that's because it is a different league...
And Toronto is neither a slow nor a low-scoring team, so it's no big deal. Watching a team with a really coherent offense directed by a competent point guard is a lot of fun for me.
I enjoy very much the Colangelo era of Raptors basketball.
EDIT: I could stand to see Moon take fewer jumpers and drive more, though. And more shots for Kapono, period. Not too many but a few more a game.

I loved the Vince years. Whenever I watch a old vince highlight reals, or the 2000 dunk competition on youtube I miss it.
I did like last years team a lot. They seemed to have a good identity and really move the ball well getting open shots. Enjoyed watching our rook Bargnani, because he looked like his potential was very high.
This year I havn't really enjoyed watching them as much. Just seem to be missing some of the ball movment, and I had some expectations of Bargnani that havn't been there. Kind of unsure of the direction of this team too.
Overall though I'de take the early Vince years.

This team has grown on me though and I think over the course of the next couple of seasons they will completely surpass the last good Raps bunch.
I miss Oakley a lot more than I miss Vince; I really liked Charles Oakley, back as far as when he was a Knick (he was traded just before I started getting seriously into ball as a youngster).
Charles Oakley was the man, for sure.

yeah the vince playoff raptors better than these playoff raptors. they were just a better team with more toughness and more options. vince, a. williams, and mcgradey that one year could've all created something. then davis was a reliable option inside. then you had oakley who was awesome.
don't get me wrong, i love these raptors but they are way too one dimensional to ever be truly interesting.

Sam wasn't the solution, but he wasn't the problem either

I can't believe the attention that is given on these forums on where a player comes from. It should not damn matter. A basketball player is a basketball player, who cares where he comes from.
The Vince days were exciting early on, not when he became a suck and tried to run the team...it was time for him to go, no matter the excitement he could bring on the court. A lot of people on this board tend to have short term memory and forget how things were.
We won 47 games last year. Colangelo did an amazing job last year and has put us in a position to contend or at least be competive in the future. The future looked bleak under Babcock, we were going nowhere.

I miss the good old Vince Carter Raptor Days. Those were truly amazing to watch. I really dislike the European flava and never will like it. This team doesn't need to be Euro just cause we live in Canada, I m really disappointed how BC shaped the culture of them. Raps should have been tough and agressive like Vince Days. I really can't wait till the European Flava is gone. But its going to get far worse as the Raptors are going to sign Roko Ukic (goodbye Martin) and with out a doubt, highly sign another Euro from europe with draft pick. Garbo, Calderon, Delfino make me laugh when I really wish it was guys like Carter, Alston, Davis, Rose, Williams..............

purple fever vs the sea of red
Talking about playoffs I think it has to go hands down to the Purple Fever era of VC. 00-01 was such a great year and a great playoff run for the Raptors. Last year with the Sea of Red for the Nets was also great too. If the Raps had gone one to win that series then my vote would def be for this Raptors team. However at this point in time nothing touches the golden days with the vintage Vince Carter.

You are probably one of the worst posters I've seen in a LONG time. Your European hate is unbelievable and the way you come across within these forums is very childish and sad. Colangelo built this team by assembling the best talent he could get his hands on and as quickly as possible. What you and some others fail to realize is that if he rebuilt the Raptors through the draft, there's no way on earth this team would have won 47 games last year.
Your opinion is your opinion I guess. But I really hope you see the light some day and your beliefs do not extend beyond the game of basketball.
