Problem: Bargnani is a Volume Shooter, Sam Not Giving PT

The Blazers announcers (as crappy as they were) said it best: Bargnani is a volume shooter. It's so true. He's such a streaky player that he needs 15-20 shots to really display his game and have enough shots to get into a rhythm. Right now, Sam's just pulling him if he's not making his first 5-10 shots - but the thing with Bargnani is he hits and misses in runs. How many times have we seen him start games badly only to come back strong - but only if Sam leaves him in the game.

The problem with Bargnani being a volume shooter is that, with Bosh and the others, Bargnani just won't be getting enough touches to be an effective player. I think it's going to be a continuous problem for this team and BC will have to figure out something sooner or later.

Bargnani won't consistently play well unless you give him at least 10 (and preferably 15-20) shots. Period.

If the Raps are unwilling to do that, it's time to think about what to do.

Seriously, this guy was a first overall pick. Don't destroy his career or the Raps by not giving him enough PT early on. If he's not going to fit here, figure out something so he doesn't waste away. God knows that Darko would be a much better player today if he didn't go to a stacked team early on in his career. Just ask Joe Dumars (really).

Give him 15-20 shots and then how many shots does Bosh get? Bargs over Bosh. I don't think so.

A volume shooter who has a career 40% fg%?? Yikes, thats a recipe for disaster.

This is true, and this is the question. Is Bargnani really good enough right now to justify giving him that many shots?

He isn't. He's shooting sub .400 on the year. He'll get hot once in a while, but if you give him that much leeway, we're going to lose alot more games.

I want Bargs to develop too, but you can't coddle him to the extent where your hurting the rest of the team.

So giving him 20+ shots a game you think he would make the effort to rebound and defend?

Neither do I. But, that poses a problem - because Bargs won't get enough shots on this team to properly develop.

What's the solution?

a volume shooter who shoots 40% and doesn`t get to the line. That sounds great!!!!!

Come on, this isn't why Bargs is getting benched, at least most of the time.

He gets benched when he doesn't rotate properly, box out, rebound, defend with any competence. He improves these, he'll be on the floor more and get the shots he needs.

Granted, when his shot is on it's easier to tolerate his defensive deficiencies, and so maybe he stays on the floor more. But when his shot is off, he's just a liability on both sides of the ball and thus gets benched.

So, we have a non-rebounding Antoine Walker on our hands? I need a drink.

Bargnani really doesn't fit with this team. A guy like Kapono who shoots a much better % on all fronts is really not getting a lot of playing time. Maybe if he was on the Cavs he would do a lot better.

I don't even think that that's the issue. The issue is that Bargs doesn't contribute much in other areas aside from his scoring. If he played respectable D, boxed out and rebounded, and avoids getting into early foul trouble, he'd be getting a lot more time on the court.

It's Bargnani's fault. His problem is that he has a low basketball IQ. Humphries moves without the ball and hits the offensive boards. He creates shots for himself. But Bargnani stands around looking uninterested and jacks up tough shots.

We aren't a last place team. We're fighting for playoff position. We can't afford to wait until Bargs gets in his "groove". The main problem is he gives us absolutely nothing when his shot is off. I say continue to leave him on the bench until he smartens up and puts more effort into the other parts of the game. He's hurt the Raptors more than he's helped this year.

If he continues to play half-assed out there, then ship him out.

His value has declined a fair bit since last season. I'm not sure what you're going to get for him now. It's a shame, really. Bargnani was the first overall pick in a solid draft class. I'm not one to cry about the foregone - but it was hard watching Roy play so well today.

You guys know I like Bargnani. He's just not getting the role he needs to be effective from the Raps, though. I know he can do better on a team where he's given more latitude.

Taking him out of the starting lineup early in the season seems like a mistake that won't be corrected. Bargnani, even though his rebounding was still a bit lacking early on, was a lot better than it is now.
