continuing on the Anti-Bargs brigade?

I was at the game yesterday, and was just in awe. This guy is gonna be something special in this league.

If the Rap's bench was on the refs ALL afternoon about Roy's palming, how is it that we didn't get one hometown call out of it?

remind me again when he blows out his surgically repaired knee

The jock riding fest continues ... Chuck and Leo, Leo especially were all over this guys junk ... WE GET IT, HE'S GOOD!!!!!!!! there are a lot of good players in the league that will never be on the Raps so do we have to hear about how great a guy is every single broadcast? ... I thought the Nash man love was bad but atleast Leo has an agenda with him, but the $hit for Roy yeastrday caused me to turn the tv off with just over a minute left in the 1st overtime ... I've had it with Leo's love for the other team ... even when Roy wasn't scoring Leo would praise him for not forcing it ... lets focus on what we have not what we could of had or don't have ... for F sakes these are supposed to be Toronto announcers not other team's star jock riders, I understand admiring their talent but to babble on for an entire game about how great he is when ever he blinks is just too much

Roy is the franchise player and will be even when Oden comes back. What a duo that will be. I love Roy's game and really loved it when I saw him play in his senior year in college. It was the same feeling I got watching Deron Williams play as well. They know how to play and use their brains as much as they do any physical ability. This is Roy's team and he creates off the dribble for himself and already attracts the double like Lebron. I'd take Roy over D. Wade and think Roy will be a top three player in this league in two years. It would have been a stretch to take him then at #1, but he clearly is the cream of that draft year crop.

I like watching other teams stars... its not a big deal to me. The product is the NBA. Even when LBJ tore us a new one, I sat there being entertained by it.

When I see Iggy I don't see a could of been raptor, what is done is done. Same with Roy, Chuck and Leo did not take away from the experience of the game (for me)... there was no resentment in the back of my head for them to take advantage of.

Roy was a beast last night and I understand those that watched being hypnotized by him.

Brandon Roy is great but he is almost the same age as Bosh. He WILL get better but by no means is he going to be better than Oden... He was the most ready player from that draft and he may have some injury problems down the line.

With that said, everyone "may have some injury problems down the line" but maybe Colangelo and the doctors saw something noone knows about yet...


Even so, I would still take him over Bargnani.

I think the irony in this is that Oden may not ever play close to a full season.

Obviously they play two different positions, but Roy will help Oden be abetter player than the other way around. Roy can already create for himself at will without a dominant low post presence. Imagine when they have to decide between giving him or Oden the double team. Roy is the Kobe to Oden's Shaq.. However, Roy has a greater chance to be Kobe-like than Oden does to being Shaq. All fun speculation, but Roy is the franchise. Do you think Portland would be where they are if Roy was injured and Oden was playing? That's a lottery team if I've ever seen one. Roy gives all their shooters the open looks they get almost every possession.

Refs were too busy calling mickey mouse calls on Bargs. If I am Bargs I start pounding people hard on fouls going forward. Maybe then the refs will think that he's playing hard and cut him some slack.

Seriously though, you're missing the point. Barring injury, Roy will be one of the top players in this league for a very long time. And it's not inconceivable that the Portland team will get a shot at winning more than their share of championships if the nucleus is kept intact.

I don't think Bargnani actually knows the rules. Seriously man, I think he's confused as to what is and what isn't a foul. That's the only way I can explain him picking up that foul at the top of the key early in the game. You can't just slap a guy's arm when he's just standing there with the ball.

So what about the foul he picked up 3 minutes later after Roy closelined him in the paint?

As much as Bargs looks clumsy out there, I think the refs have built up some preconceived biases against him this season and they are blowing the whistle at everything he does. Watch closely and nearly EVERYONE in the league travels off their pivot foot, but Bargs is the only player I see getting consistantly called on it.

Roy's dribble was driving me NUTS. a carry ball every time.
and Jarett Jack had happy feet every time he set up near the 3 point line. step left, step right, plant feet, do it quickly to confuse the ref, then penetrate.

The travelling calls against Bargs annoy me too. I think they were worse last year though.

Regardless, it drives me crazy that they call him on it when I see SO many players make the same move. I guess if they're not 7', it makes the move more likely, and because of Bargs' size and occasionally awkward moves to the hoop, the refs just see a travel.

Roy is the type of shooting guard that would have fit perfectly on this team, and would have made Parker much less crucial for us to hold on to.

You're absolutely right.

I like Bargnani. I'm happy to watch him improve and grow as a ball player. One day he's either going to allow us fill a need by trading him, or he's going to allow us to trade Bosh.

BUT - If I could go back to the 2006 draft, I'd take Brandon Roy first overall. He's really really good.

(If his already known to be injured knee results in his becoming an injury prone player in 2-3 years, I take back my desire to have him over Bargnani.)
