Since then Bargnani's minutes have dwindled from 23 to 17 twice and finally to 15 on Sunday. Bargnani continues to be a work in progress, but Mitchell feels that patience should pay off in this case. Bargnani is becoming more accepting of coaching now and eventually the improvements will begin to show in games.

Hopefully, this pays off again against the Pistons. He's had some nice moves lately, but fouls, rebounding and/or bad defense have kept him out of games.

I think he's looked like he was putting a lot of effort with his man D, but picked up some either stupid fouls, or pretty iffy calls. He still looks confused helping and on the boards sometimes, but at least he's rotating now. Sometimes hitting rock bottom can be good for a person. Allow them to step away and really look at themselves and what they're doing and such. Here's hoping that's what's going on.

Just curious here...how many people think that Jamario deserves the 30 minutes per game that he's averaging right now? Does anyone think Carlos or Kapono gets left out and maybe totally forgotten, or do you think Sam is justified in giving the wings the minutes he's been handing out?

i think moon gets the benefit of the doubt from sam some nights but when he's rebounding and active on D he deserves his minutes. I like the way Sam's handling this. He's come a long way from challenging his players to knife fights, or whatever that silly business was with rafer...

and while I'm at it, a little applause for SS, the one-man raptors clipping service. he's average 2.2 finds a day, no turnovers

Bargnani's trying to improve, the refs are limiting his development. He tries to be aggressive out there but always picks up quick fouls cuz the refs are **** terrible. And that just causes him to play passive.

Justified.

He's our best team defender, arguably our best one on one defender and our most aggressive rebounder. And we need help in all 3 of those areas. Plus he plays as hard or harder than anyone on the roster. And while he does make the odd rookie mistake, he surprisingly plays like a wise veteran most nights. Plus when we do go small, he's the only wing player that's really big enough to masquerade as a PF for long stretches.

Just look around at any top team and they always find minutes for their best defensive player no matter what kind of offense he brings.

Honestly, without his emergence I think that we'd be below .500 right now. He's bringing exactly what this roster was previously lacking.

To me it looks like the 5 man combos with Moon are a positive... the only bad ones also include Baston/Graham.

It is also intersting to note (looking at the chart above) that Bargnani does not look like a liability out there.

Its only 36 minutes total and I would guess that is the unit that closes out blow outs... since it is compromised mostly of the bench.

The + numbers are decieving as they do not weigh the quantity of minutes.

What is intersting to me is seeing the Bosh/Andrea combo vs the Rosho/Bosh combo.

That chart is totally blowing my mind. And my ability to make unsupported statements about how lame a certain 7 foot Italian is.

It's reassuring to see Bargs as part of the top lineups... and staying out of most of the bottom ones. But I have to say, it seems counter intuitive... I would imagine that after line 1 to 3, the results very much depend on opponents (or else lines 7 and 8 would freak me right out).

Ok here is the same chart with per minute adjustments and sorted by (+/-) per minute.

Offensively the team suffers because Jamario doesn't touch the ball much. He isn't disturbingly bad at shooting, but unless he is driving he pretty much shouldn't be involved in the offense.
Defensively though, he is a difference maker at times. He's aggressive and he works hard.

I think its a mistake in some games where he isn't having great games, but on the whole, he is really a veteran playing a veterans game.

Some games when Delfino is really hitting his shots I think Moon should be losing some minutes to him though.

As for Kapono, his defense is actually better than I thought it was when he was in Miami but he isn't very good. Not Matt Bonner bad, but not good. I would rather see him out on the floor in late game offensive situations.

What I notice is that delfino is regularly in the lower (+/-) per minute.


[Calderon, Delfino, Parker, Moon, X] seem to be a good combo.


The linups with Calderon are superior than Ford, at least when it comes to (+/-).


Note: That the 1st line up with Martin + bench is our blow out close the game line up... they are usually playing against the other bench.

All i know is that I'm giving bargnani some extra slack cause its Colangelo who picked him. If it was babcock who had drafted bargnani id be bargnani hater #1. Moreso because I hate babcock more than because of bargnanis faults
