Dear Chuck:Please tell Jamario Moon to stop shooting Jumpers

Post#1 » by cooliesfynest » Wed Jan 16, 2008 2:32 am

It amazes me as to why this young man insists on shooting long jumpers and neglects to drive to basket and use his most effective asset- his athleticism!

The reason why he doesn't drive to the basket, is that he doesn't have the handle to support good drives when there is a defender, to create space, and seperation.

Yea his handles, vision, and passing AND his finish on drives is seriously lacking. His jump shot has become a bit mroe consistent of late, to the point I dont wince when he shoots the wide open mid range jumper.
His range does not really seem to extend to 3's tho, I would like to see his %.

He can't create off the dribble + There is no off the ball movement in our offense + Our offense encourages jump shots + Moon is a mediocre shooter= Bad result...

I'm sure Moon wants to get the rim, but he knows he limited in his dribbling skills, it's why you see him when he doesn't have a shot, pass the ball, and when he does dunk, it's either put backs, or fast breaks, or when there is no defender in the way.

How many in traffic dunks on a drive have you seen moon do? Hopefully moon can work on his handle in the offseason to help him support his leaping ability.

That's true. At least he's not Robotic like Graham, most of his dunks have been drives when the lane opened up.

I hope he works on handles.

I'd rather have Moon taking a 3 with my life on the line than Dixon or Martin.

his shot has been pretty solid lately. might as well realize now that he does not have the ablility to drive to the basket. hopefully something he will work on this summer

We need to tell Bargnani to go back to Italy, until he becomes a man. Enough of this crap wid him, Joey Graham played a much more complete game than Bargs.

I agree he needs to take the ball to the rim more but he's shooting 52% over the last 6 games. His jumper has started to look much better. At the same time I'd rather he go to the rim but until he takes this summer to work on his handles he just won't be able to.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks Moon is a terrible shooter?

He's certainly no Kapono and he's a bit streaky, but overall he's been an OK outside shooter this season. And sometimes when the ball is swung around and the clock is running down, players on the court need to take open jumpshots. It happens several times a game.

His shot has also fooled me into thinking he's a poor shooter, but he's actually been pretty good with his shooting. I still cringe when he shoots, more because I hate those plays where he does 2 or 3 jab steps and then thows up the jumpshot, but he has been hitting those shots.

i would really like to see Moon attack upon immediately getting the ball from a swing. I think he, unlike bargnani, has great instincts, and I trust him to make the proper moves when reacting to the defence. I also think his first step is faster than he thinks it is, and that he just has to have more confidence in it.

I just see him hesitate too much on the drives and tries to jab step to get the defence to move. If he moves before the defence can really get set up, he'll be way better off.

moon taking the open 17 footer - go ahead
moon taking a three - shot clock better be at 3 or under
Sam wasn't the solution, but he wasn't the problem either
