Jose IS our starting point guard?
With Calderon's sublime point guard play since recieving starters minutes, is it now time to officially annoint him as our starting point guard? Any questions over how he would handle starters minutes seemed to have been answered. He is recieving widespread respect throughout the league for his play and even tonight the kings announcers agreed that even if he doesn't make the all-star game this year, he will in years to come. His efficiency has been just as high as off the bench inspite of his doubling minutes. The raptors braintrust have the rest of the season to evaluate Calderon however look into your crystal balls and answer me this:
With TJ coming back in a few months, do the raptors give Jose the starters job to lose both now and in the future and shift their trade/free agency targets to surround Bosh & Jose(with his half-court oriented game), rather than Bosh & TJ(with his uptempo, frenetic style)?

Yeah, it would have been the same with Calderon out, the reason we miss him so much is because it kills our depth and forces us to rely on guys like Dixon and Martin. We need both of our points going full force, hopefully we can play Caldy at the 2 as well when Ford gets back to get both of them more minutes together.
As for the question, yes, I believe he should continue to start even when T.J gets back.

Rule #1 in professional sports: you never lose your 'job' due to an injury.
TJ will eventually come back.. and when he does, he'll backup Jose until he is ready to be the starter on this team again.
but again.. all the starting PG means is that your name is announced on the PA system.. if both players get 30+ minutes.. who cares who is the starter?

I'm one of Ford's biggest supporters around here (in voice, I mean, not height), and still think that Calderon has to start after Ford returns. Just like it made no sense to hand the reins over to Jose while Ford was playing well early in the season, it makes no sense to disrupt the current starting line-up unless they start to struggle.

**** your asterisk.

Not happening unless we decide to play both of them at the 1-2 for stretches.

That's far from the number one rule in pro sports.

Actually, we don't know that. While you're most likely right, the Raps haven't played enough games without Jose to say that for certain. I personally think TJ would average about 19 and 10 or so if he was playing the 37+ minutes Calderon is playing right now.
I don't think Jose should continue to start for the following reasons:
1. it changes what we were previously successful with. We don't know what the dynamic of Jose starting and TJ coming off the bench would be like for an extended period of time. Starting TJ with Jose backing him up has been very successful.
2. TJ is a significantly better defensive player
3. TJ can create shots and bail out the offense when it isn't going smoothly(like the Celtics game early this year)
4. TJ has the most confidence and swagger on the team.
5. I just think TJ is the better overall player

I don't think anyone in the brain trust has any plans to hand over the team to a player who hasn't shown he can stay healthy - and who could, quite frankly, decide to retire at any point within the next few years.
