Found this article about Roko Ukic. They describe him in very glowing terms. I've never heard of the website, and don't know how reputable it is. If he is this good then it certainly will be interesting next season.

[quote]though his size will tempt opposing coaches into guarding him with their shooting guard, his body control, fluid movement, and sneaky speed will cause headaches and lead to double teams. For a player with strong passing ability and tremendous cool under pressure, this situation could lead to finding the open man more often than not. While Ukic

He's a really good player, solid starter in Rome but you just can laugh with that last paragraph.

It seems like the article is written by a promoter because it doesn't talk about any of his weaknesses at all, it has the same sound as we heard last year when Chuck talked about Andrea. That being said I'm really looking forward to seeing Roko come over and show us what the Raptor fans have been waiting for.

I don't know nordigue. If he is able to be wiry string, say in the mould of Tayshaun, he could be a hell of a defender. Nice lateral quicks, massive wingspan, seems mentally focused in the few times I have seen him.

I really like his game.

And now, everyone's favourite Roko tidbit: he dominated Devin Harris in a predraft workout.

I mean if he is able to shutdown the premiere NBA PGs (and SGs!) he would have been playing big minutes in the past, this is his first season as a starter and believe me, defense is highly rated here in Europe...

That's cool. I'm not talking about him coming in and shutting guys down right away, you need a book generally on dudes before you can do that, unless your a freak say like Moon and other teams need to get a book on you first because you can do some crazy things.

But I think he has some tools to develop into a hell of a defender. Really, and I am asking this because of ignorance, how many guys in Europe are excellent defenders at that young of an age? You generally need some savvy and strength first, no?

Sure, his height and wingspan is definitely a plus for a guard and should be a valuable player for us, I'm just saying this report is too optimistic.

Coolio.

Most reports like this are, I try and filter some of the hyperbole out and look at the items listed(like H and W.)

SHUTDOWN defender, not f'in likely but a decent defender is probable. Hes got the lateral quickness, height and length to be decent. I jumped on youtube to watch some of his videos and its mostly all offense they show so its hard to guage his defensive ability but I did find an interview with him and I'm surprised how good his english is. Language is always a barrier for foreign players and I remember at the press conference he had in Toronto after the draft, he barely spoke and his english was pretty bad but it sounds alot better now, far better then Bargnani even. Theres the link if anyone wants to see it.

Roko will likely join us next season. His size and ability to penetrate are very intriguing. Can't wait to bring him over here.

Dude, height and weight are just as irrelevant (joey graham) as the conjecture in said types of articles...it's best to get information from respected sites that have a track record and even then take it on a case by case basis

Doug Smith is a Roko hater

Shaazz edit: oops, sorry pushed wrong button, I wanted to quote you not edit you!

Anything is better than DMart. Roko's ready to come over, but we have to keep our expectations in check.

Funny enough, I compare Roko as a bigger Devin Harris. Similar games IMO.

Just as a side note, probably one of the funniest things I saw when I watched him yesterday was when he was guarding Milt. Milt dribble up above the arc for about 6 seconds as if he's some superstar and raises up for an off the dribble 3-ball.

Suffice to say, he missed badly.

It might be just a coincidence but do you go to a site called xshare?
Just asking because a poster there has the same chelsea pic

That's a pretty good way of summarizing things. I'd like to see him come over, but let's see him play before assuming he's got huge upside. I'm concerned that his outside shooting is poor. I like the idea of Forderon, because TJ penetrates more but Jose has the far better three-point shot. I don't want two point guards (were we to trade Jose) who defences will collapse on.

I really paid attention to his defense in our pre-season game against Lottomatica. He wasn't that good, both TJ and Jose had their way.

On offense, he did return the favour though.

Hehe, sorry about your post.

Here is what I wanted to respond with.

I understand what you are saying and I agree. However I have seen Roko a couple of times and I like his body type as a perimeter defender. Like I said before, if he can become wiry strong, I think he will be quite a nice perimeter defender. And I also filter out hyperbolic statements like "lockdown."
